Just to introduce myself, I've been brewing beer for a long time so I figured concentrating the best parts would be the next step. :)

I have been doing a lot of research so I won't waste time with questions about lead free solder, aluminum boilers or running hopped beer through the still.

That said, I do have a few questions for the more experienced out there...

What are the most common mistakes made by beer brewers?

I've read a lot about turbo yeast leaving bad tastes, so what are better options? (Brewing experience has taught me that two different strains of yeast can produce completely different beers from a split batch of wort.)

I'm still digging through the forums but I've read a lot of great advice so far. I'm sure I'll be a regular around here. :)

Home brewing is only an asset in this profession. Many if us do both. The sanitization, mashing, and principles are the same. Most of the equipment is also similar. Run one of the tried and true recipes and you will be ahead of the pack.

Welcome to the forum, +1 on the tried and true recipe. I am not sure where your from but they say we don't tan but rust here in the state of Washington.

Welcome.
I am also a brewer and my worst mistake was adding used chocolate and black malt to UJSSM after a stout brew. Turned my corn likker bitter. Got 3 bottles aging and seeing improvement but it still won't be my good stuff.

B.D. the tent catapillars are bad this year here also. The "pillars" arent so bad but the damn things shat everywhere!!
A.D.D. and HD don't go together. This hobby takes time and dedication to learn and do it right and safe.

On hopped beer, I have seen this in some of the old distillation books floating around on the internet, for instance in the Samuel McHarry book I believe there is a recipe, also he seems to use hops frequently in the mash process.

Does it create nasty flavors or is it considered inadvisable for some reason?

Lots of guessing going on. Lets just say I'm down the highway from the only rain forest in North America.

I used to live in Forks, was very glad to leave, we got 17" of rain in three days once.

You close to the Hump? :)

All grain brewing is helpful for stillin up to a point. I brew beer, and run shine. How can you go wrong?

When you're running mash, it's difficult to find time to brew up beer, I make ten gallon batches of beer now so it's easier to keep the pipeline full.

Welcome aboard.

Having brewing experience is nothing but a good thing. The only thing I see prior beer brewers doing is thinking good ol bakers yeast is not worthy. Don't discount good ol bakers yeast. It may not make a good beer or wine for some snobs. But it makes a good spirit for some of the finer snobs around here. :mrgreen:

Thats true , I never would of thought to use bakers yeast for anything other than bread until I found this forum, all my beer and wine I fermented with Lalvin yeasts.
And welcome, I see from one of your posts we share the same taste in rum :thumbup:

Don't think just brew, or just distill the rest just kinda happens.
