Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

oaking ujsm with peat

Post by Sloanick »

I don't have space to malt my own grain yet, so I got thinking maybe I could toast my oak sticks over a fire and toss a bit of peat in too!
think that is a good idea?
I also want to add more grains to my ujsm and try to make a nice scotch.
any ideas or thoughts would be great
thanks!

No I haven't, that's why I just gave you the link, I didn't want to armchair it.

Mash rookie has tried it, shoot him a pm I'm sure he can give you a little advice on it.

I'm really not the guy to comment on sugar head washes but on your grain idea maybe you could add some more grain and some LME. You might also try switching your sugar to dextrose, it's a little smoother.
