Just started this in a 1Litre bottle

750grams of strawberries
1/2 cup of sugar (way to much sugar!!)
500ml of 60% likker

After the first day it already smells and tastes pretty darn good!!!!!!!
Can't wait till it finishes

what I don't seem to understand is after you siphon off the likker you add more suger to the strawberries?
Do you add more likker to the strawberries aswell?? I've sifted through the 20 pages of comments and seem to not understand it
(stupid question I know But it really is confusing me)

New guy here, made a batch of blackberry and another of pineapple... The pineapple is amazing, its almost gone already. The blackberry is good too, but tastes a lot stronger.

So I'm thinking of using 45% to soak the berries in pint size jars. About what is my final proof gonna be. I'm just looking for a good starting % that I won't need to dilute. Just seems easier. Thanks, I can hear the panties droppin already.

Nevermind. I guess you need the high proof to macerate them. I was thinking you could start just a bit higher than your final % and be ok. I doubt that a low % would work correctly, or at least quickly. I wonder how much the fruit soaks up. I'm sure that different fruits would vary. Sounds like my sons next science project :lolno:

If the panties have enough wind resistance to hear them dropping you might want to take the beer goggles off. Unless yer into that, which is cool.

I've just finished reading this thread and there's almost nothing on citrus fruits.

Has anyone tried this with mandarins or oranges?

Hey y'all,

Use them boozed and syrup-ed strawberries at about a 50:50 ratio with fresh to make some awesome strawberry jam - I'm amazed at the amount of booze flavour they retained
Where has all the rum gone? . . .

Would bacardi 151 rum be good to use with this recipe? I have friends who are making it with 190 everclear and proofing it down.

Thanks!

Help dumb this down for me in regards to proofing something like it. Started with a gallon of 100 proof and doing the sugar pulls if wanted to make this around 80 proof how will I really get an idea how to distill it or is it just to taste ?

[/img]Thanks Hyko that should work out i think.
Heres a few pics that might help others.

1.75 Liters of vodka turns out to around 2.5 Liters after about a week soaking.

Few images of straining with a t-shirt to get rid of the floaties.

Should turn out good about how long does the sugar process take?

Trying this method out with various fruits... soaking in 65-70 ABV birdwatcher's sugar wash.

From left to right: peach, strawberry & kiwi, just strawberry, pear, pineapple, blueberry, blackberry, and the jar on the end is some fire piss.

Tried this method with raspberries and the results were not as expected. Tasted too tarty. Tried with/without lemon juice and different sugar amounts but couldn't shake that tarty taste. Flo reckons they all tasted like cough syrup. :(
Trying blackberries now.

I added sweetened lime juice to mine and a bit of extra sugar in the jar. Tasted really good that way.

Hi Guys,

Newbie here, I have a quick question, I have a first run of a UJSSM here that I would like to do this with. I ran it on a detuned boka so it's still got some flavor. I'm a little confused as to how this is done exactly. I have some strawberries in the fridge right now I'd like to start this with. My confusion is in what to do after putting the berries in.

Do I put the berries in my alcohol with no sugar, let them sit for a week, then pour the alcohol into a separate container and then put sugar overtop the berries?

Do I later combine the two again or what? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a little confused.

Yep. Do exactly that.
Fruit + spirit:- infuse then pour off.
Fruit + sugar:- infuse and poour off repeating till sugar no longer turns to liquid.
Blend and strain.

The stuff I made was so sickening sweet I just split it n half ant topped each jar off with 80 proof. Now it may be a little stronger than the ladies may like but it's sipable .now they just don't need as much.....lol!!!
