Electric heater
Would these be usefull, or would it burn all the solids? Even when the mash is filtered?
And how would one install these in their pot? I am only familiar with screw-ins

Re: Electric heater
First, if you are going 220v then I'd go bigger than 3KW, go more like 4500-5500 so you have room to grow.
They will burn soilds in the boiler so you need to have your wash clear or filtered and fairly sugar free(fully fermented). Both list a thread diameter so I think they may be screw in models. If you are familar with the screw in models why not buy one of those?
Try searching for Camco IMO, they have 4500-5500 240v elements in screw in models.

Re: Electric heater
Hi Durace,
Unfortunately I am unable to use higher fuses than 16 amp. So 3,5KW is the max for me
What would be a good method to filter the mash? Wait till all the sediment is at the bottom and then carefully siphon with a cheese cloth at the intake?

Ah Amps, forgot about amps. Filtering is easy or hard depending on your equipment. Some pour it through a pillow case, some siphon it off with a paint strainer or homebrew grain bag. It doesn't have to be clear like water but no big chunks floating around. I like the method of putting a grain bag in your bucket, add grain, pour water over this, when you are done, pull up the grain bag and hang it over your bucket to drip out, then let the bucket settle for a few days and siphon off the liquid and leave the muck at the bottom in the bucket. All it takes is a siphon, some rope, a bucket & a grain bag.

Re: Electric heater
How about this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/220-380V-6KW-3U ... 35c0b1def7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow, can the full 6kw be run on 220v, or can the 6kw only be used when you run it on 380v?

Re: Electric heater
To decrease burning use ultra low power density elements, like this - http://www.amazon.com/Camco-02963-Heate ... 062&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

I don't sure about this particular element, but I beleive it can be run 6KW on both 220 and 380V . It actually has two elements. For 220v connect them in parallel , for 380V consecutive.

Re: Electric heater
I actually think that that one has 3 elements Sambedded, so if I hook up all the 3 elements parallel, I should be able to get 6k on 220v?
But I am eyeballing those camco elements now

Re: Electric heater
on another forum it has been suggested they will tri-clamp on and are not screw in
see "Designed for sanitary use"
a member bought one and says it was tri-clamp able
but your not really going to know to your holding one in your hand

Re: Electric heater
I was suspecting that Maheel. I think I'll buy it, the shipping from the camco element to my house is already double the price.
As the sillicone ring seems pretty thick, I am thinking about drilling three holes in my pot element (the wide area doesn't contain anything important right?) Braze three bolts in the pot and just tight it together with three nuts. I hope the thickness of the ring will provide a watertight seal.
