Help making apple pie shine!?

Post by holliday »

Got a bit of worry right now. I had a quart of 160 proof spirit and I cooked up 1/2 gal of apple juice and apple cider. About 1 cup of white and brown sugar. I poured my quart into a half gallon jug and filled it 3/4 with the apple pie mix. It tastes quite strong but my scale says its 0 proof!? Any help would be great

your hydrometer wont work..you have added sugar.a hydrometer is made to measure alcohol/water or sugar /water.
anything else can effect the reading.
1/1 will make it 1/2 as strong so now you have 80pr..
there is a calculator on parent site.(dilution)

24 proof liquor freezes at -6.7°C (20°F)
64 proof liquor freezes at -23.33°C (-10°F)
84 proof liquor freezes at -34.44°C (-30°F)
this will give you a idea.......
or you can figure it out alcohol freezes at -114c/-173f

I appreciate that I hope it is the right mix. Where did you get those numbers?
