I know she is ugly...but I didn't have a single leak and everything worked as expected. The pics here are from my first vinegar ran to clean her out. I plan on doing a cheapo wine run in a few days and then on to my Sweet Feed Whiskey that has been fermenting for 3 days so far.
Things to do...
1. I want to find a way to support some of the weight of the arm. As you can see, it has a little bit of a lean since the lid is somewhat flimsy. I may just bungie the top to the handle on the opposite side.
2. Move everything to the garage on a propane burner. It won't take long for my wife to start to hate me if I keep this operation going in the kitchen.
3. If I end up sticking with this hobby, I'll probably move to a keg setup. Should be an easy transition.

he dosent have to ditch the thermometer, its already in there. we tend to suggest not to use a thermometer on a pot still because it dosent do anything but let you know your rig is getting hot, however since its in there just leave it be. something to look at i guess

It's a pot still. Not a reflux still. Packing a pot still will give you a pot still. Won't RO much of anything for you. You need forced reflex for packing to work.travelin man wrote:IM A NEWBIE>>>>> SO IM GONAA ASK...IS THER ANYTHING IN THE COLUMN AS FAR AS A MESH OR IS IT OPEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH....JUST CURIOUS
And you don't have to scream at us.
Nice build. I would tell you to take the thermometer out throw it on the ground and stomp on it. But you haven't asked the normal thermometer question yet. So I won't tell you that. Yet! I miss Blanikdog.

Re: My Samohon Inspired Pot Still
I have since replaced the pot with a keg and made my own flange. So, the thermo is gone and I have a completely leak proof still.
And now...I'm already mapping out my upgrade to a flute. That didn't take very long. :S

I had the same problem so I incorporated an upright into my table to take the weight off the can lid. It would be easy to fashion a support to sit on your counter top.
I'm going to try a renewable grain based lifestyle. Beer and whiskey count don't they?
