Question For Hillbilly Flute Owners.

Post by FreeMountainHermit »

Guys, I'm currently running a pot and a boka with better and better results as my distilling experience grows.

The HBF boasts a higher take off rate as well as higher ABV than my current set-up but is a big expenditure for me but I'm considering buying one in the future.

What have your experiences been with yours ?

Thank you, FMH.

You can read all about the flutes in the flute talk thread. That's where KS got all his ideas from when making his. Copying OD's magic flute. But there is plenty of info in that thread to get you better in the know.

I have a 4 plate flute from them and love it . I'v made some great SF whiskey & am running some rum this weekend. That being said i'm going to build an additional packed column for it because i can't produce a really clean vodka with it . hoping this will help

Adding a packed column to the top of the plates will defiantly help make a good neutral. Problem being height. 12" would work. But 24" would probably be best.

Mr. P, I've spent a lot of time there and thought I'd ask for individual responses from owners of a HBF rather than rehash the concept which is indeed very good.

You da man and thank you, Sir.

24 " is what i have planned. My boiler is on a stand, but with the electric heat i can set it on the ground and still clear the ceiling with the addional 2 ft

A few have posted great results with packed sections and bubblers,EG and crow, and mash rookies all come to mind. I operate with hieght restrictions, but with I am very happy with the product I get by running twice. Just like a pot still, hard and fast stripping run followed by spirit run. It is still far faster than the boks that I have run in the past!

Hillbilly gives much credit and respect to OD in every post I've seen. Two legends in my mind.
