Vanilla flavor

Post by jmesle »

I've read a number of posts about vanilla beans being added to the finished product after oaking. One post said they put a vanilla bean in the vapor path during distillation for just a hint of vanilla. I would like just a hint of vanilla in my Oaked UJSSM and may try putting a bean in the bottle . But just to get a general consensus. Have any other people put a bean in the packing in the column. Sounds like a good idea for just a hint of vanilla.

When I finish my 50ltr pot still and 25ltr thumper
I plan on putting half my grain bed and a Vanilla bean
In the thumper when I do my spirit run or single
Run when I get better even a bit of orange zest
Would go quiet nice with a bourbon.
Well my thoughts and taste anyway.

I bought some clear pure vanilla extract from Mexico, I've been adding this. Add to taste, and it doesn't change the color at all.
Hangover? I don't get no stinking hangover!

wouldn't it be easier to age with charred oak at 55% abv? if it still isn't vanilla enough for you just drop the bean in the bottle for an hour or so. the longer you leave it the more vanilla it gets. just remember it's in there and don't leave for 2 weeks as i did.
A hangover is when you open your eyes in the morning and wish you hadn't.
