hillbilly stills?

Post by shinyhead »

Are they reputable? They have some things I want and just want to make sure they are reputable before I spend the money.

My thoughts are if its in stock you should be good to go. My order went well no problems and I have yet to see any problems.

From what I understand they are no longer here on HD due to a customer conflict but I have only had good and positive experience with Mike.

I did the search and didn't find what I was looking for. Is your response the standard response to newcomers? If I would have found an answer to my question, I wouldn't have asked. If you don't want to be helpful, don't respond with the garden variety response of "use the search function."

No, I don't claim to know more than you and I am quite sure that I don't have 1% of the knowledge that you do? I am not too lazy to use the search, but when I I don't find an answer that makes things clear for me, I will ask a question. I just see that response of "use the search function" pretty regularly, and it gives me the impression that the more experienced people don't want to be bothered with rookie questions.

It should tell you. We know the info you are looking for is readily available. For you to find. Not that we don't want to be bothered to answer the question. If I didn't want to be bothered I wouldn't post at all. And I wouldn't have a blue jacket on.

I know for a fact that this question comes up quite often. If I'm not mistaken there was one brought up last week. I've read them every time they do. Including the one that got him banned from this site.

People tend to interpret things different ways, if that was a catch all for newbies so be it. I think Mr. Piss has a very valid point. But shinyhead has had a problem searching for an answer. The answers are out there, but they can be hard to find. I think we all need to be more like ducks and let some of the water roll off of our backs! Do you know what I mean Jack? (Sorry a little Sy from Duck Dynasty coming through there). Let's don't spoon feed anybody, that only leads to poorly informed answers. I know I have been guilty of that. Searching for an answer will reveal more knowledge. We all need to find a way to make this fact more acceptable to the new person looking for an answer.

I am new and trying to learn. I was always told in school to ask questions in your quest for knowledge. The teacher would always give us a source to find it, and they always directed us pretty close to the location of the information. They didn't just tell us, "it's in a book in the library", go find it. Maybe it's just me, but if someboday asked a question about a topic I am familiar with, I share my knowledge with them, as some here did, not " search for it". Maybe that's just the way things are done here. I help people any way that I can. If I know where the info is located, I give them a link and they can read the info. That's just me though. I may be a tad touchy, but the standard answer here appears to be, "use the search button". That is not helpful to a person looking for information, personally, it frustrates me when I get these types of responses. I then just go and learn by trial and error, heavy on the error, but I learn what I need that way. I won't ask questions once I get frustrated. Stubborn that way I guess. It gives me the attitude, "why ask, nobody's going to help me any way."

shiny head the reason we ask people to try to use the search is because the same questions get asked over and over hence the reason that when you do a search on hillbilly stills you get 883 returns. in using the search you also find answers to questions that you did not yet know you had. we do answer questions but we also ask that people try to help themselves instead of being spoonfed. just gets old answering same questions over and over

You're right, I am overreacting. I use the search before I ask already. I will do a more thorough search before asking in the future. I apologize if I offended someone.

let me help a bit because if your searching and not finding the answer i might say that perhaps your not using the HD GOOGLE SEARCH at the top of the page.. it is far better then the standard search, give that one a try and im sure you will be fine.

as for the so called attitude you feel your getting, i think Piss is just trying to say that you should search first then ask if you had searched you would have found that there was no need to ask, as we know the answer is out there and doesn't even require much effort to find

here you go

http://www.google.com/search?rls=en-us& ... 66&bih=625" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

2770 returns for this search.

and i will also help in the fact that the owner of hillbilly stills is a member of the forum who learned everything he knows right here in this vary forum, right down to the design of his still. he is a good guy and as long as they have the products in stock you will get a quality product in a timely manor. and he is great at customer service in my opinion. also a great place to go by and visit( i live an hour away from the warehouse)

Thank you. I was using the standard search and not the HD google search. Now I will be able to do a better search before I ask a question.

Finding 883 hits for a search followed by 2770 for another does not indicate to me that the searcher has found their answer. In fact the exact opposite. What it tells me is that this site is so large that the search functions actually provide hundreds of false positives and in amongst those are the one or two snippets of useful information that was actually being sought. It then takes quite a bit of time to wade through unwanted, and often repeated, occurances of the searched-for words in threads that are often full of the exact same posts repeated over and over from people using the "Quote" option. This is my own personal experience with the search functions as well and the use of the quote of a quote of a quote of a post is evident right here in this thread directly above.

You do not need to quote whole posts to make a point. The simple use of the directed comment using the gloabally accepted format of the ampersat symbol followed by the username (eg:- @username:- comment comment comment) is usually sufficient for thread readers to follow the flow of posts and understand the to's and fro's.
If there is a particular phrase of point that you need to use for emphasis then use the quote button but edit out the fluff and make the point. There are many posters who do this but many others who don't. It is not so hard to click the "Post Reply" button instead of the "Quote" button, and if you do quote posts edit them appropriately. These practices will make for a much more useful website as a whole which in the end benefits all who use it.

I have actually read good stuff here while just browsing through the forum, then a couple of days or weeks later tried to find it again by using the search but with no success at all, and my ability to produce targeted search strings is quite fair. Let me give you an example. I recently read somewhere on here a post from someone in a discussion about flavouring, where they wrote about using Maple Syrup to flavour their Bourbon and they also made use of proprietary store bought spirits in small amounts as well. They said that in doing this the addition of the bought spirits tricked the pallet and tongue into thinking the whole product was closer to the branded product. I have tried to refind that post with no success. A search for Maple Syrup Jack Daniels provides 44100 matches. Searching for trick the tongue, trick taste buds, etc etc and still can't refind it.

It is fair to say that the standard response of "try the search function" is a bit worn out on this forum, but I accept the reasoning behind it.

The very reason I suggest using the search. Is to cut back on the amount of threads created asking the same question. Making it harder to find things.
