My worm sucks.

Post by wv_hillbilly »

It passed the BB test and everything, started a cleaning run today, smearin like a SOB. I'd get huge flow and then nothing, huge flow then nothing. Got to looking at it and it has a couple very minute raised spots that I tried and tried to get out and couldn't, pretty sure I F'd the worm up royally. Just a word of advice for those going with a worm, make sure its perfect, I mean 100% not even a mm of a flat or raised spot, or you will be in for a very very bad day. My blood pressure still hasn't come back down.

try dialing back the heat some, run it slower and see if that stops the surging and smearing...or go the liebig route...works really well.

The more space in between each layer of coil makes it so much easier not to have high spots, getting a bigger worm bucket would be something to consider.

Just went threw and bent a few spots. I'm going to go through it again when I have time and solder some 1/2" pieces between the coils to hold in place.

Wow, I never would have imagined a bent worm would be so troublesome.

The crazy thing was it really wasnt that bad, passed the bb test. Could pour water through it and no problems, when I started running it though...hell. All is good now. I was just posting a read for the new guys to make sure that sob is absolutley perfect if you're gonna go the worm route.

Hawk, the problem with worms is simple. You must have a constant downward slope to the tube. Sounds easy in theory, in practice not so much. I used one for years, battled the same shit wv is talking about. Built a leibig and never ever looked back.
