Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
Hi Guys Who am I ? Well I am Big Bert, which is my cats name who knows more about this game than me. I can not build a still I have no talent that way ,but I sure do like them. I am new to the form and I started reading about OldDog ,he is great and I want to tell you there is no way I will discredit his name. I buy all my stuff from the big guys who get all there SS pieces from China or India and some of their copper ones to, so I am thinking OldDog got ripped so why not try to make it right. I am dam near as old as OD get a pension and truck 4/5 days a week and because of my trucking days I have contacts with a lot of people, I can get a better deal than the big boys and market the flutes as "a OldDog design " and cheaper too. This is not a money thing it's a make right thing. Now for all the people who have the talent to build one of old dogs flutes get at it, the marketing is for those of us who want but can't have unless we buy and like me work for a living so we need cheap so we to can enjoy what you boys do.

Congratulations Big Bert I had no idea somebody out bid me for North America. I was thinking bidding would go on for a few weeks.
I believe your tower shipped yesterday and we did sent a copper flute window section with clamps and copper plate for free to say thanks for all the orders.

Thanks MH I have been waiting for the tower, and the new copper section will look great on the flute I have and replace the one the machine shop screwed up for me trying to put this manifold that I want together .
Now all of this started with a comparition between two flute designs,I have run the MH half a dozen ways so far and it does work great ,if HB will get me the flute I ordered 5 months ago we can continue on with the big run off.

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
Good on you Big Birt.
I'm glad someone else put their money where their mouth is.
I feel Olddog gave a great gift to the distilling community, I'm happy to support him, as are you.
Many have benifited from Olddogs design, thats how he wanted it to be. He wouldn't have shared it if he wanted to purley profit from it.
I'm glad to be able to offer a copper alternative, compatable with triclamp systems, that will swap out with current stainless offering from asia. Made to western world expectations.
Although, I feel the origial poster ot this thread deservers an answer, considering where its gone now. And you are about the only one that can do a side by side comparison and give an answer (depending on hillbillys lead time).

It would have been canceled along time ago
My Grandpa used to say. Don't argue with an idiot, because he will just drag you down to his level then beat you with experience.

OD, I'm thinkin, there's just no way you can endorse one of these things unless you have personally took one
apart, looked it over, and run it .........
So, only one solution, any still mfg'd for sale with OD's name associated with it = OD gets the first one ....................

It is not the matter, nor, the space between the matter,
but rather, it is that finite point at which the two meet,
that, and only that, is what is significant...........
(Of course, I could be wrong) ..........

To cancel now would not be fair to any one ,we must still answer the post and as empty said its up to me being as I stated I would do the run off. Hell I have already spend the money and I am getting the 26 gal can and all the extras I ordered, I do see your point of view Odin the time frame is out of this world, but I said I would give it a fair test and I will.
Oxbo you are right also OD should get the first one, I will put up the first half of the cost, any buddy else want to join in ??
Back to the post, lets hope HB gets me the flute soon, then we will know .

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
When I ordered a flute from HB it was 14 weeks. Six days later it went upto 20 weeks and I had to wait six weeks longer.
30 weeks now is a joke. Hope you get it soon though.

This just shows the massive opportunity for a new player in the game, I hope Bert gets up and running quickly to fill this void.

Cancel the order. If they refuse, dispute it with your CC company. That right there is some shitty customer service. Sounds to me like someone trying to get rich on other people's money.

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
Hey, look, KS did what he did, and does what he does. He don't need bagging.
This is not a JC pennys store kinda game. If you want one of these things, you either make it or buy it, the info is available for both options.
Once you choose your road, travel down it. Making a flute will teach you more that you can see today, buying one will give your results tomorrow (or as soon as you get your equipment)
So basicly, if you are confidant enough to put your cash down, don't rubbish the product you bought, or who you bought it from.
At the end of the day, I hope you can make the product you wanted out of it. Not much more matters. If you have to wait for your equipment and dont like that, you can always make your own. Or just kick back and study recipies while you wait for your still.
Like mummy said, "good things come to those that wait"

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
yes EG I'm sure your point is taken but if you are told the wait will be 14 weeks and 30 weeks latter your still waiting that's not really what you would deem to be reasonable, I mean fair suck of the sauce mate obviously they're busy but it should be first come first served. There's only 52 weeks in a year ya could blenky macramé one in that time, I as sure as hell would want a solid explanation

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
Well yes and no,
Big bert has commited himself to buying a still off both manufactures, and commited himself to replying to the OP.
He has also made a deal with Olddog on the topic in discussion.
Hes made a bit of a commitment that most people here simply dont have the cash, time or ability to answer. I'm not saying BB has the cash to burn, but he's putting what he has behind his statements.
GM, you have come up with some really cool ideas, if I copied them and took out a patent on them, would you be happy?

Re: mile hi flute vs hillbilly flute?
What I was getting at was OD should have started a new post. The deal with you, ( EG ) and Big Bert has nothing to do with the post topic which lead to other discussion. Anyways congrats to you, Big Burt, and OD it sounds like a good deal for all.
