Re: Prayers wanted
Wishing you peace and rest, words just cannot convey feelings at a time like this. Take care of yourself!
Re: Prayers wanted
R.I.P. Mrs Husker.
I've often found fishing in solitude good for the soul. A good fire. A peaceful place with nothing but the sounds of water, crickets, frogs, etc.
Take all the time you need Husker. We'll be here when you get back.

Goodbye Barb--Rest in Peace
As you know Jim I went thru the exact same experience. It was 15 years ago this month but lots of times it feels like yesterday. She is beyond pain and suffering now and that is a big relief--hold on to that. Your whole outlook on life has changed because of this experience--thats Okay --it will just take some gettin used to. You're a little numb right now--that too will pass.
Go easy on yourself--you done good--you were there for her when she needed you most.
I gotta good fishing hole--you know where I live

Re: Prayers wanted
I've often gone fishing when pondering heavy thoughts or trying to escape for a while. I believe its serenity is medicine for the soul. I'm truly sorry for your loss Husker, for now take care of yourself. A poem on a friends memorial card really touched me so I'll share.
We little knew that morning, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone, For part of us was with you, the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide,And though wr cannot see you,You are always by our side. Our family chain is broken,And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.
Anyway, enough from me, hope you hook yourself a river monster.

Re: Prayers wanted
So sorry, Husker. You've been in my thoughts.
If you haven't already, may I recommend picking up a couple of the "life after life" or "near death" experiences type books.
I started with Raymond Moody's "Life After Life" way back in the 70s, but I have read a few others since then.
These books have really changed my life and the way that I view "death".
One of the nearly universal experiences that people of all faiths and all walks of life report is the experience of being greeted on the other side by loved ones who have already gone ahead.
One exception to this is when a child has a "life after life" or "near death" experience. I guess because they are unlikely to know someone who has already crossed over, so they are instead greeted by their angels.
But most everybody else is greeted by departed loved ones on the other side.
I have taken these books as proof-positive that the soul is eternal and that we are going someplace really nice when we leave here.
So many generations of man didn't have this proof available to them and they had to rely purely on faith. But we do have this proof available to us, in the form of these books, thank God.
I take a lot of comfort in the Bible, don't get me wrong. But I have also taken a lot of comfort in these "life after life" type books over the years.
It has been a long time since I saw "death" as a time to say, "goodbye". Now it is just: "Well, I'll see you later."
Take care.

Re: Prayers wanted
This world is like a hotel where souls arrive, stay for a while, then depart. While living in this hotel our vision is limited to this hotel, but we all live before arriving and live after departure. We stay in this hotel for as long as we have something to give and to take from the other current guests. We create new debts while settling the old. Having forgotten this stay completely we meet again and give and take again, thinking it's all 'chance'. But the giving and taking is governed by a law so complete that not even a grain of rice, not even a thought, goes un-noticed. We rejoice when meeting again not knowing why we rejoice, and we weep when we depart not knowing why we weep.

Re: Prayers wanted
Goose, I am TRULY lucky. I found her, lost her, and she found me again. I know of so many people who have never found their soul mate. Yes, things did not along MY plans for the future, but it was not mine to plan.
Her big sis and I prepared her (and ourselves) today and watched as she was placed into the crematorium. I placed several very personal items with her. Things which brought her great comfort and peace in life. I also placed several personal letters, cards, etc, and a tissue which I soaked moments before.
She is at ease, and has been with her ggrandma Nine for a few days now. I do miss her, deeply, but I also cherish the memories we had put together, and cherish our wonderful children, and now grand children.
Blessings, H.

Re: Prayers wanted
My mother went on hospice back in March. She rallied for a while, but 4 months later, she passed. Sure, it's my mom, and not my soul mate, but I feel your loss my friend. It's never easy. But as I tell myself often, I'd rather her not be suffering. Better that I suffer her loss than her having to suffer to take each breath. Stay strong, and know there are many here who mourn along with you.

Re: Prayers wanted
Sorry to hear about your mother F6Hawk, that's not an easy thing to go through either. I mean I don't know how close you were to your mom, but mine raised me and spent way more time with me growing up than my dad did, and I can't imagine how hard that would be to lose her. I know one day I will have to deal with it, but its never easy. One thing these type of threads has proved to me though is that this community has a lot of really great people who truly care about each other's well being. Yeah some people are just here, but there are others who would do as much as they could to help you through things. It really is a great thing, it honestly has helped renew my faith in people. My condolences again to the both of you. Take care of yourselves

Re: Prayers wanted
God our Father, Your power brings us to birth, Your providence guides our lives, and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for huskers family, relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ, Who died and now lives, may they rejoice in Your kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again in one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

Re: Prayers wanted
This weekend, we had a celebration day for Barbs life. We had it out at the Aquarium where she worked. It was outside, just to the south of the facility, in a beautiful clearing in the trees. There were a couple hundred people in attendance, and it was such a cool day (low 70's), with such a nice gentle breeze. I think Barb had something to do with the weather, it was so perfect. We started about 11am, had a big 20' x 30' canopy, and about 4 'normal' sized 10x10's also. The aquarium staff had pulled up about 20 picnic tables, and had reboarded some, and restained them, and also brought out about 10 6' folders and some chairs, which we used for the food lines, and memorial/signing table. I had commissioned one of the hunter ed instructors who owns a saw mill (they use only trees the scavenge out of construction burn piles), and he built a log slab bench out of walnut, and we placed it under a very special tree to Barb. He also fabricated a coffee table / bench, out of more walnut to match the normal 3 person park bench. (I will update with pix) I had some of the archery ed instructors bring some 3D's (deer and bear), and some genesis bows (small youth bows), and some arrows, and kids were over having a great time with thosehttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow I will try to pull some of the pix. . Kristen and David both had females (coloration makes it easy to tell). I had the male, and he was having very little of it. Bit me a couple times right from the start. Did not hurt, but I thought it kind of fitting that I got the mad one, and the kids got the safe ones, lol.
There was also a slide show put together by the sis of our son's wife. She did a fabulous job in doing that. I dug through and found about 200 pix of Barb over the years (out of about 5000 pix). She was always behind the camera, so getting pix of her was a rare event. The slide show was very nice. They have a 120 seat theater at Aksarban Aquarium, and allowed us to play it a few times during the day (and all we wanted after the building closed at 5pm). It was impossible to watch without water works.
It was a very nice day, Barb was looking out for us. I was worried that the day would be about 4 degrees under the temp of hell, like it had been for weeks. It turned out to be almost a record low, for this time in the summer, and a nice gentle breeze, no rain, a few clouds here and there. Could not ask for weather ANY better than it was. Only problem was I had about 15 cases of beer, 15 cases of pop, and about 400 bottles of water. I now have about 2/3 of that in a couple of fridges, and piled in my pantry. No one needed to drink much, it simply was not that hot of a day.
Thanks all, for the warm thoughts, prayers, and condolences. Kristen and I are at peace, and moving forward. I do have some family that will have to do some sorrowful grieving a little more, since they were not living it day by day, but we all will get through.

. We had Nebraska Raptor Recovery out there, and we released 3 American Kestrels, I released one, and so did David and Kristen. It was very beautiful. I know you have to have facebook account to see there, but there is a slide show, that one of the lady CO's put together of the release.
