Flexible copper plumbing stick

Could i use two of these as my internal tube on a Liebig condenser? I was thinking that the ridge nature would be beneficial in increased area for condensate and in contact with the water jacket.

I think its too large in diameter, also be difficult or imposible to find fitting for the outside tube that fit properly.
It would be cheaper and easier to use 1/2 inner and place a copper wire spring inside to create more surface area for cooling the sprits.

You can do a lot with copper tho... so whatever floats ur bubble

Hi Bentjar, the ends are standard 15 mm dimensions and designed for connection to other standard fittings. Each end has a couple of inches of straight pie for this very reason, I was building a Leibig with 15mm internal and 22mm jacket as used elsewhere on this site. When i saw this i thought it may make a good replacement for the normal 15mm straight pipe. I am assuming from your comments that 15mm is too large for a liebig then?

15 mm is your equivalent to 1/2" is it not? That would work good for a inner tube of a condenser. But at 300mm its awfully short for a liebig. That's approx one foot. Don't know how big a still you are making. But it would take two or three of them to make a good length liebig condenser.

yes one would be too short which is why i mentioned two in my original post

The still i am going for is a boka LM/VM combo so the Liebig is for the product condenser. Question is, would there be a benefit in using 600mm of this type of tube instead of normal straight pipe. Has anyone used this type before? Thank you for your reply.

Im a fan of keeping things simple. Since youd have to splice 2 of them, minimum, and youre paying more for the flex to begin with, why bother. Get a chunk of 15mm straight, pull a length of copper wire out of a chunk of romex, and call it a day Cheaper, less fuss and you make the size you need.

The non linear shape would cause pooling and smearing in a liebeg if used off vertical. With the thin wall it would make a fine graham condensor inner spiral. I've seen 2 foot long sticks in the local hardware stores.

I am sure that the two or more sticks joined together would do the job that you want them to do. I would think that the lieberg would have to be more or less vertical to prevent the condensate pooling in the corrugations.

I use a vertical lieberg on my LM / VM head and to get the additional contact that you are looking for I crimped the inner tube with a pair of mole grips ( Vice grips ). It is working fine and was a lot cheaper than the sticks you are contemplating using.

He is talking a VM only condenser. Most of which are vertical. So pooling wouldn't be a problem.

Two could be fine? Depends.

But I do agree. Kiss. You could build the same thing with regular 15mm. Add a swirly piece of copper in it. And get the same outcome. Probably cheaper.

Hi hey, I found your post very informative thank you. The cost for two of the sticks is six pounds or about 10 dollars so not expensive and after reading your post I think I will be giving it a go. Thank you for your reply. Kerberos.
