Weekend projects keeping me busy.

I've pretty much taken the summer off from distilling. Decided it will be a cold weather hobby. One of the reasons I haven't been around much. So I've been getting other projects out of the way. This was this weekends project. I spent the week ripping the old metal shed out and prepping the floor. And got to building it Saturday morning. Worked till I couldn't see to nail anything. Then hit it again this morning. All we had left was the roof decking tarpaper and doors. It's a 10'X10' with a 4'X8' loft. I built it so I can lower the back wall and add on later. I haven't swung a hammer this much in a long time. I have blisters and my hands are killing me. But its done for now. On to the next project.

Nice looking building PP! Did you build it from scratch or buy a kit? Now all you need is potable water, drain, sink, and ventilation for lp exhaust! I need one as well.

It was a kit. It's to get the garbage out of storage. And park the bikes in. It will make more room for my brewing equipment. I will be able to put my fermenters over in my fermenting room. And clear more room in the brew room. I'm now thinking about putting our extra dishwasher in the brew room.

Yep, I only carry a hammer out of habit and to knock a stick or two into "plumb".
The nailing all happens with the guns.

I was wishing I had a nail gun. I will have one for the shingles. When I get to that point. Not going to put shingles on until I add on to the back of it. In a month or so. Want to have all the shingles match up. And I will be getting a framing nailer for the add on. LOL Add on will be another 12' off the back. It will end up being 10'X22'. That should be plenty of room for all the extra crap. And the three bikes.

Trust me on two points . Nail guns are wonderful and I don't care how large ya build it ; it ain't never gonna be big enough . Good lookin job so far .

New weekend project. Ok well project. I've been wanting a large gas fired griddle. For camping. I like cooking a big breakfast while out camping. And a couple little frying pans just don't cut it. I've been looking at premade ones for a long time now. Just couldn't cough up that much cash. I also have been collecting burners as I find them on clearence. Got another one at cabelas the other day for $11. Online prices for it from $100 to $150. But we went on a bike ride Sunday. Stopped at Orcilens and what did they have. A two burner LP stand stove. For $50. Couldn't exactly fit it on the bike. Went home got the truck and bought it. Got it home hooked up an LP tank. Fired it up and the flames were really low. Turned it of and it flash backed in the burner. This caught the manifold fitting on fire. LP leak. Went to tighten the fitting. And crack. Broke both valves off the burners. It's a king kooker. Went to their website. To find out they only sell the whole manifold. And it was $35. WTF. I headed up to the ol hardware store. Got a couple needle valves and a 90. Tapped the 90 with a 1/4 28 tap. Threaded the orifice piece that broke off. Then threaded it into the 90. Hooked it all back together. And wala. Works like a charm. So now I'm into it for $70. I measured it all out. Got a piece of stainless steel plate I had. Just shy of 1/8" thick. Marked it all out where I wanted to cut and bend. Last night I cut it out. This morning took it into the shop and bent it up like I wanted. Well best I could with a hyd press. Got home tonight and whacked it into final shape with a hammer. I also picked up some SS angle for a frame around the bottom of it. I already had some 3/4" angle from failed legs on Sugardaddy's boiler. So I got busy cutting the angle up to fit. The 3/4 will go across the bottom in the middle. To help keep it from warping and to spread some of the heat out. The 1 1/2" angle I got today will go around the outside. Positioned so it slides into the keepers already mounted for the wind break that came with the stove. All making it more rigid.

The griddle surface is 14"X28" with a 4" splash. Not quite as big as I really wanted. But I think it will do for now. Until I build the big boy.

Here are a few of the griddle surface. The first one is before I took a hammer to it. The other two are after I adjusted it with a hammer. The last one is on the frame. So you cam see how it will sit on the stove.

Oh next I need to take it to the shop and weld it all up.

So far I have $125 in it. Not bad for something I haven't found for under $300.

Depending how the heat is distributed across the griddle. I mite add another burner between the two it has.

Neat little note. The distructions that came with the stove. Shows heat defusers as an option for their burners. It's like a 6_ square plate. That is placed right over the burner. To distribute the heat better under a pot. I have cut two out of the leftover SS I had. And will be trying them out with the griddle. I just thought it was cool. That they offer something we suggest all the time around here.

Oh yeah and give it a good polishing. After I get it all welded up.

Ought to work out just fine . We fed a couple thousand striking miners on one similar that was 6' x 16' and propane fired . Hint : fry your bacon on the uphill side so the grease flows to the lowest section . You can flip as much grease as you need back up across the cooking surface . Break all your eggs for a meal over a funnel in a gallon jug . Shake hell out of the jug and pour over the griddle . Want onion , peppers , ect. in your eggs ? Sautee them in bacon grease on the griddle before you pour the eggs over them . Bon Appitete .

Good point TB. But I have two of the best grill operators in town. Living in my house. My wife was a Waffle House manager/cook for 15 years. And my oldest for 3. You get the two of them on the grill. And they came be beat. That is if you can keep them from fighting.

You could weld a bead of demarcation down the middle and have competitions between the 2. It could get sporty, might wanna start shopping for the next size up britches from all the vittles judging
