Hillbilly stills repair

Post by Skyraider2012 »

If you look at the pic.. does anyone know where I can find this joint? Unfortunantly this one got twisted off at the arrows.. I want to repair it for a friend. But I need the pieces so I can solder it.

I know im going to have to sweat the old pieces out on both sides.. but that shouldnt be an issue. then re solder with lead free.... hillbilly wants $90 to repair.....

Thanks

Sky

Can't tell from the picture what size it is, but that what you have shown is a female copper union. It is either the 1/2 inch size or 3/4. I have included a couple of links below of where you can find them. I think that if you get the ones with brass you will have to do a process called pickling to treat the brass. Do a search on picking.

I have the same unions that I bought at Home Depot here. Looks like a union with a street 90 coming off of it. All copper with a brass nut pulling it together and running less than $10 for the union and the street 90.

ok update... $10 worth of parts.. $10 in lead free solder an paste $30 for propane torch $50 total and I have solder paste and a new torch... left over and it looks great... the only thing I havent a clue what this thing was soldered with nor what they had painted it with???? but regardless its fixed looks great I still need to test the function and make sure there are no leaks... So a soak over night in vinegar then a vinagar/water run and a short sacrifical run then good to go. Now looking at this pone I would build one like this it looks easy enough... and I think would do an easy flange... Than you guys again for all the help.
