Has anybody tried these charred barrels?

Post by sounder_4 »

These guys are WAY less expensive than the other American barrel suppliers that I've looked at. Anyone have experience with them? They claim barrels are charred to medium+

Yes and they put some Fancy art work on it to.
I sent them a zip file of what I wanted and they burnt it on the barrel face. I have filled out three times and it leaves a nice spice note with vanilla tones to the drink.
Highly recommended company.

I was looking for a small sized barrel to try out and used this company. I actually got an imprint on the front of it too. Turned out very nice... Shipping cost was just as much as the barrel...lol.... Use them....they're good!

How long did you age in these barrels? Anyone try to re-use them a second time? The price seems right!

Less time than you would otherwise. I'm not a big fan of small cask whiskies, I find them too astringent. The first scotch I had ever tasted was a sip that my father gave me when I was about eleven. It was an Oban Quartercask Cask Strength whisky. It tasted like the inside of an antique cupboard.
The still is not a liar. Mash and ferment quality is 99.9% of your performance.

Good to know mdh! Just wondering your technique? I've been using mason jars with various charred chip, sticks and others. I've been experimenting with different amounts and I've pricked a small hole in some of the lids to allow a small amount of breathing as an experiment.

On the third fill
First fill about 6months
Second about 9 months
Third and I think final shooting for 12
