Recycling Feints.

Post by Otis Campbell »

Ok, been running this UJSSM...
How much clean spirits are in a gallon of heads?

It seems if I add a gallon of heads to my next run, I get twice as much heads on the next run.
Seems as if I am wasting my time?

Your thoughts?

Some get what you get. Some say they get more hearts? And some (like me) save all the feints for a all feints run.

If you are making tight heads and tails cuts. You won't get much out of them. I make tight hearts cuts. Maybe leaving a lot of good hearts in the heads and tails cuts. knowing I will be recovering them later. And getting a better product in the end.

+1 PP

i used to add back to the next batch and never could quite get the balance of heads hearts and tails. i always felt just as the OP felt, that i was just getting more heads.

but for the past year or so i have been doing all faints runs and am much happier. sure you have to save a large quantity of un drinkable booze if I plan to re charge my 15 gal keg. but i feel the product that comes off of an all faints that is comprised of rum and whiskey mashes, some sugar heads and a fruit run or two creates a vary special 2nd run through my flute. every time i do one im pleasantly surprised at the quality of the product that would otherwise go to waste

I've tried adding feints to the next run without much sucess. Now I just save them up until I have enough for a all feint run. That seems to work better for me but others have good luck just adding to next run. You'll have to try it and see what works best for you...

Another vote for all feints runs; in fact, some of my best results have been from all feints runs. I usually dilute my feints runs down more (30-35%) than with normal spirit runs and run my pot still as slow as possible.
Good Luck

doing an all feints run at the moment, it's just the tails I've collected though. I usually save my heads for the next run on whatever I made previously with the heads and discard them the second time they run through. Should have some pretty nice vodka since I have been making a fair bit of Birdwatchers recently.
