there's hope for the homebrew stores yet

Post by pounsfos »

So I have finished moving to another city (gotta go where the jobs are)

after settling I popped down to the local brewshop to have a talk to the owner there, it's a hybrid shop so does beer/wine/stills (even has hops on hand) was impressed with the stores, lots of stuff to get started, talked to the owner about this and that, he defiantly knows his yeasts that's for sure.

Started talking to him about distilling, he says he does it every now and again but has never gotten into because he can never make anything good. told me he uses the T500 and turbo everything (as a store owner you usually get the t500 free as you sell them), I saw telling him it was a CM astill went straight over his head

He asked me what I had, told him I had a 2' boka, he didn't know what it was, I asked him what cuts he was making, he didn't know anything about that apart from the first 50mls. Asked him a few other general questions about this and that.

as I was leaving, he asked me "bring your still in, I'm interested in seeing it"
he also asked if I could teach him the basics etc...
I pointed him this way, so will be keeping an eye out for him,.

I am happy to see he is willing to learn and progress as an owbner of a shop, any info he learns will help him with novices and people wanting to get into the "game"

I'm going over tomorrow to show him my still and have printed off some documents for him, hope all goes well, I don't want to feel like I am undermining him or anything, but his specialty is clearly wines and beers, so we may learn something from each other.

P,

Glad to hear that the gospel of good, safe & tasty distilling is being spread! A little education with the owner can go a long way!

My brew shop people are nice people, but only carry super whamo 23% for distilling. I'm working on them.
Still happy, Still learning, Still reading
