Big week ahead

Post by pfshine »

Like i said i have a big week ahead. Thanksgiving on Thursday hunting fri and sat then sunday is the big event. My brother and i are closer than most he knows what i do and we bounce building ideas back and forth he really enjoys what i make. But now he is getting really interested in the process. Last week i had him help me with an ag cooking the corn. Sunday we are gonna do three runs maybe four in a row. This will be an all day event. I plan on filling my five gallon barrel with this almost the next saturday i will run the rest to fill it. While we are doing the runs i will have my bro make a piggyback on the ag that way we have some sippin "whiskey" durring the wait on the five gal to age. Also durring the week i have to find and clean all my glass ware for collecting and airing those runs. Busy busy busu but i am stoked to get my bro onboard.

It'll be great to have your brother on board, I am close to my brother too but I think Mom dropped him on his head when he was baby cause he don't like alcohol of any kind only beer. Sounds like a great week, have fun.

Well it was a crazy week alot of hunting and family today got off to a late start 7am we did one run racked off the last of the cleared mash in the fermenter then took the backset in the still melted the sugar added water and filled it back up on the grain, it is now bubbling away nicely. Filled the boiler again and ran it. I didnt get as much done as i wanted but its a good start on filling my barrel to drink next ysear during fishing season. I got three more runs to fill it I should be able to do this during the week and blend dilute and fill on saturday. I did try something new today for the run, i usually heat up with both elements 240 and 120 then turn the 120 off and controll the 240, this time i left the 120 on and lowered the 240 down further to accommodate the 120 to the watts i wanted. These were the smoothest runs on this rig by far. I recommend this to everybody on here.

Son of a blank i think my brother cursed me first the spill now i decided yo do a quick run before bed i turn everything on and about a minute later i start to smell the magic blue smoke so i start looking around and its comming from my controller. A capacitor blew on my ampmeter it would be easy to replace if i knew the rating but no stripes for me to see. Strange thing is it still works fine.

I had the smoke from the ammeter too. I disconnected the ammeter & just ran it. Kinda like running a pot still without a thermometer. Works for me!

Turns out he did curse me after the ampmeter there was a short in my controller power supply. I went all over town today to try and find a new two pin 300v 30amp power terminal to no avail. I said f it im just gonna hard wire it. I did that and started the still again. The whole dang run tastes and smells of tails. But on the upside while i had the controller apart i added some lights as visual indicators two know what power is on, and i am going to build another scr controller for a backup just in case this happens again.
