I'm running a sugar wash, using a 48hr turbo yeast. It calls for 18lbs sugar and 5.5 water and pack of yeast.
I added the yeast and it is working or appears to work.
All I have is a fizz and no foam. The fizz is massive and the airlock is working. Just have no foam.
Is this normal for a sugar wash and turbo with nuts in it?
Is it ok to have a fizz instead of a foam?
thanks

Never used turbo but my bread yeast usually only fizzs.

ok, thanks.

good lord, over 20% in a wash. I been shooting for 5-8%
People talk about my drinking but never about my thirst.
Re: Sugar wash is Fizzing no Foam
This is my 3rd time using this. Its Hillbilly 48hr turbo.
I just never noticed the fizz and no foam until this time. First two times I closed the lids and just watched the airlocks. This time I opened the lid to check the SG after two days and noticed the no foam, just fizz.
I mix 6.5Gal water and 18lbs sugar in a 7gal bucket. Each run uses 2 bucket to leave some headspace in the Keg.
My first Run using this I got 2.5gals starting at 130pf ending at 80pf using a reflux tower as a pot still, collecting in qt jars.
I used the first gal to make drinks which was a mix of 130's and 125pf and then used the remaining 1.5gal and used it in my second batch cause it got smeared with the tails.. keg got to hot.. on the first run.
My second run I turned the reflux on to help up the proof and also learned my keg temp control better..
I got 2.5 Gals of 180pf from that run and only 2qts of that was at 175pf. then it started dripping out and I up'd the temp and then the tails came out.. so I knew I was done. I guess I could have collected that for a later run.. but figure I wasn't getting much usable stuff at that point.
Kind of hard to tell right now how much I got from each run, since I screwed up the first and added it to the second run.
Does 2.5 gal at 180ish proof sound about right for a 13gal run with a 1.5gal addition of 90pf avg. Figured the addition really only added about 2-3qrts of usable stuff. So I'm thinking I got 2gals of from the 13gal wash.
does that sound about right.

Would need to know start SG and ending SG, then you could figure out total alcohol content of wash. Had we known that, we could figure it out to some degree of perfection. That said, with that amount of Sugar, in 2 batches, if you got your wash to 20% and ran your still collecting roughly 80-90% the 2 gallons sounds about right to me.

If you like the likker from turbo yeast, you're gonna love the stuff from a non turbo ferment. Try one of the recipes on this site. You may not get the quantity but the quality will be triple that from the turbo.
