Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Rum Tour

Post by Bushman »

I am leaving for a cruise on the 5th of March in the Caribbean but will be gone one week on the cruise and two weeks touring Miami to Myrtle Beach. I am thinking about by passing the normal tours in Jamaica and trying to set of a private tour at the Appleton Rum Distillery. Anyone been there or gone on their tour? What I've read is they make one of the best rums in the Caribbean. My wife's comment was your life doesn't have to always revolve around distilling! My return comment (didn't win any points) was that it was only one day out of the 7 day cruise. :sarcasm:

HAHA sounds like my wife. We visited a distillery while in Scotland. She commented similar. We went. She, begrudingly a little. She dont drink whiskey,... I drank her samples. Life is good.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Haven't been there, but is there a bad rum tour in the caribbean??? Given the recent history cruises have in the news, the rum tour may be the highlight of the vacation! Take plenty of pics and videos to share with us.

I hate it when I get surprised like that...never been a debate club president and I don't have a Hallmark Card kinda brain which sometimes causes me more trouble than I like... However my wife likes to travel and surprises me with vacations incorporating distilleries and wineries.

Wife and I have made weekend trips to distilleries and had a good time.

It's amazing what you see, what they say and what they do & don't know.

I about fell over the first lab/kitchen we went into and they were preparing the adjuncts to add to the finished product. Measured amounts of caramel, pepper, glycerin in to the tank before bottling. They made no attempt to hide or deny it.

From a Trip Advisor review
""(Appleton's Estate) is a fascinating journey through the history of the region and the fine art of rum making and is well worth the bumpy roads. The product is wonderful and the Estate is beautiful.""
I'm sure you already have homemade in a mason jar that is better than their 30 year old. What the TA reviewer describes...thats the reason we go on the tours. Hope you get a good tour guide, they make or break a tour.
