Slight mid life crisis

Post by Husker »

Could not pass up the deal on this one. only 20k on it, built by Werner Cycle Works for his kid, who was too 'spoilt' to drive a sporty, even a fast nice one. Paid about 1500 less than I was expecting to pay for a simple one that had some pipes and other 'extras' on it.

Now what sux, is I have blown all by 20 hours of my PTO for the year, and I still have to hunt sometime. Guess I will be going out for lunch a lot more now 8)

Would be a day. Gimme a buz, and we can figger something out. You don't have helmet law down there do you?

Yup, 96, solid mount. I got no gloves yet, that will certainly be a FIRST purchase. Smooth enough around 50, but you get up to 65-75, and it even vibes ur feet a lot.

It is a nice bike that has been trailer'd up to Sturgis a few times, but for me, it is a MOTOR cycle, and will be a daily driver. I bought to ride, not to haul.

The guy I rode over with to buy it has a '10 vstar. He was very much in love with this one. He did have a '00 sporty years ago, and also loves the better 'feel' he gets on the yamaha. But he also really like the look of this one, and neither of us could find ANY reason that would stop this sale.

I had a Kaw Vulcan 700 in the garage that has not started for 3 years. I 'gave' that to a good friend. I am pretty sure it is just the bat that was bad, and I had bought a new one last fall, to get it running, but never spent the time to do it. I called and talked to his wife last night, just to make sure she was 'really' OK with him getting the bike. I will give it to him for 500, when he can get it, and help him get it running. That was a pretty nice bike (still nice). It was too short for me, and sat outside a FULL year (through snow and everything), so it will take a little bit to get it road ready. But I simply wanted room in my junk packed garage.

Barb was wanting me to get one for a couple years. I just could not see doing this, while she was so sick, heck, I did not even get the other one running, because I simply did not want to be out having fun, while she was at home suffering. If she would have gotten better, I would have pulled the trigger in a heart beat.

Had one of those myself. Sold the bike I had and bought a bmw Z3. Wanted to feel the wind in a drop top before all my hair runs off!

I thought I posted this already? Oh well I will do it again.

I have heard those solid mounts vibrate like crazy. My rubber mount vibrates a 70 +-5. Probably not nearly as bad as yours. But I can't use the mirrors at that speed. 75 or above is good.

Yep Kansas doesn't have a helmet law. But Missouri does. I try to stay on my side of the line. As much as possible.

Yes, they vibe like a MOFO. Not bad, until about 60-65. But by the time you are at 75, it is even vibrating your toes. Gotta be damn sure to have locktight on about all fasteners, or u'll lose parts going down the road.

But I can see pretty well even at 75. It has some really beefy chrome mirrors.

Got it insured and licensed already. Found out it was an 883 hugger originally. I think Warner Cycled wanted the 883 due to the lower gears. But it's 1200, and I have the 93hp dyno sheet on it, so its not too slothful. The hugger was also a shorter bike (original XL Low). The guy I bought it from put different shocks on the back, it also has FWD controls. I am 6'3, and it fits me just fine, even though it was a low. It had swept back bars, that would have been right in my chest, but now has 6" riser drag bars on it. I think that helps keep it pretty stretched out for me. But the seat height is not bad. The friend I took along has long torso, short legs, and he could touch both feet when I let him spin a bit last night, but he was 1/2 way up on toes to do it.

I do like it, but gotta get some good gloves to help with the vibes. It has 1/4" rubberized cutouts on the grips, but that is not enough.

Jim.

Yup, like the saying goes, "The best cure for road rash, is to never get it to start with!"

93hp is very respectful. My wives bike is 91hp stage one. Both of ours are set up just alike. Same pipes, mikuni carbs,, and high flow air cleaners. But she has a hot ignition module. Mine doesn't. And hers is a 1200 mine is a 883 converted to 1200. With the 883 gears like yours. I lowered mine for looks. I now have no suspension in the back end. Little rough on the tailbone. Fwd controls are a must. For us taller guys to be comfy. I loves them sporties though. Been kickin big twin a$$ since 1957.

Sounds like you got a nice one there.

If you ever need some good info about that sporty. The XLforum is a good one. Bunch of good people on there too.

I kinda like em even more cause they are built here. Over on the MO. side of town.

Put her in the ABATE bike show in Lincoln this weekend. About 350-400 bikes, and lot of nice ones, and a lot of REALLY NICE ones. She won 1st in mod custom Sportster class. I did not really enter to win, did not think I would. But I guess they thought she was perty enough to give her an honor.
