Parrot ...of doom

Post by Notams »

I decided some time back that I would like to build a parrot. I looked at all the bright, shiny, artistic and creative works of art on here, and was inspired... to go a different route, that is. With propane torch in hand, and mig welder within stumbling distance, I set to work.

Behold. The most offensive parrot I've seen yet.

I love it!

My recent parot build was a flop, 3/4 tubing is not wide enough, my alcometer rubs on the sides and gives bad readings

Glad you guys liked it. It was fun to make. Something to be said about not really worrying about how clean your sweat work is.

@Condo33 - I attached the whole thing to the granite by using a diamond grit core bit I had for countertop work I did some time back. I drilled in deep enough to insert a piece of copper pipe, added some silicone to make sure it didn't wiggle, then just slipped the reducer on top. Very secure, but removable from the base.

@Bushman - I am going to PM you this evening on some advice. I read in one of your comments on the "Cutting a SS Keg..." thread about you having some experience welding ss ferrules to kegs. I'm just learning TIG so am interested in the amount of difficulty involve (walking the cup, foot pedal action, etc).

@Hotshotz2 - I sat here and racked my brain for a good catch title on this thread and here you just spit out a great name. I love it. FrankenBird. With your permission, I'd like to adopt that name for it.

LOL another crazy guy from the NW! Obviously an artist. The TIG is really easy with the correct fit. On corner welds like a ferule to keg you want the thinner material to overlap equal to its thickness. Use several tack welds and weld small sections. Stainless takes a fair amount of heat to flow well but you will have to back off power as a weld progresses. Welding sections will help there.

BM and I book end Puget Sound. He gets the top part. Welcome aboard neighbor.

Very nice art! On a user oriented basis, just how much does that parrot drink before it gets full enough to piss? It looks like it could take quite a lot to see a change in abv.

@GA - Not sure as to the amount it would take to fill as I haven't tested it out yet. You make a good point though and I will have to measure it now. It was my first parrot so mistakes were expected. I tried looking up dimensions of others before I worked out mine. I have some friends starting a craft distillery so maybe I'll just let them mess with it and see what they think. Summers I'm busy working on outside projects.

But the beauty of having such a hideous looking parrot is that I can just cut a chunk out of the middle, slip in a tarnished coupling, gob on a crap load of dripping solder to the halves, and only add to its... appeal?

HELL YEA ! Anybody can spend hours finishing and polishing some copper to the point that it looks factory made . Takes a reglar damn artist to blend different tarnishes and solder smears into something estheticly pleasing . If it wants to drink too much the solution is to build a bigger still to match it's thirst
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .
