I would say it would work good, the stuff for tire valves is pure ptfe. How would you get the ends together so there wasn't a leak where they meet?

You could twist together valve packing that's twice as long as the circumference of the pot.

Simple cut both ends at a angle then take some cotton thread and a needle and splice em together the rope is cheap and should last a heck of a long time.

Post results and pics, it sounds promising.
Is it the sort of thing that is readily available and cost effective?

Re: Braided Ptfe rope?
From what I have found it looks safe,a 5/8 x5/8 x 69" piece runs about 15$. It compresses with very little pressure and is real spongy from what I have researched on it; so the thickness should not be a problem. It is designed for marine motors so should be very durable I currently don't have a use for it as I am working on my new keg boiler and thumper project. But as soon as I get this done I will be working on what I think is a real cool 5 gal pot still for spirit runs and I believe I will use the braided ptfe rope and see how it does.bearriver wrote:Post results and pics, it sounds promising.

Could also be used as a simple alternative to the 'everlasting gasket' for keg-column connections. very promising.
Hopefully someone with the knowlege can chime in on this.

I just bought five 2" Tri clamp gaskets for 6 bucks, not sure why you would use the everlasting gasket for keg-column connections? I think it would be a good alternative for stock pot boilers with bowl lids if not superior. But until I implement it the jury is out as for the superiority of it.

Re: Braided Ptfe rope?
I made a flange for my comumn to keg connection. It requires a gasket. I use one that I made...not bought. Works like a charm.
Perhaps someone who builds a stock pot based boiler, who decides to use this rope of wich you speak, could also utilise in a different manner, the leftover rope... so as not to be buying extra things they never knew that they needed.

Re: Braided Ptfe rope?
I sent a email for the manufacture of the product and if it was 100% ptfe just waiting for a response. The product looks like the 100% braided ptfe but does not specify. But Curtis Wright Flow control company has what I want to use check them out.bearriver wrote:What is the exact name and brand if the product your using?

Re: Braided Ptfe rope?
As I am awaiting the email for the product that I am looking at, I had some time to do some more research on braided ptfe rope some are only impregnated with ptfe.So I would not suggest just getting this stuff and using it.Some have Kevlar in it some have "ASBESTOS" in it so we have to make sure it is 100% ptfe.
