Aging on oak and crystal malts

Post by Flokks »

Hi Guys

Im making a sugar wash for Vodka used to make flavoured schnappses. But I read that up to 80% of the flavors in whisky come from the oak casks. And I like whisky :)

Can I fake whisky by aging the vodka on oak and adding a few kernels of crystal malt?

Thx in advance

IMHO, you would get better results for vodka using o the neutral wash recipes in the tried and true section, do good cuts and aging in glass. For a great whiskey, use the Sweetfeed or UJSSM recipe, do good cuts and age on charred sticks or charred keg. I don't see much sense making a vodka, then try to make it taste like whiskey.
Good luck.

Iv oaked a sugar wash run. It's not as mellow and real hard to hide the vodka taste. My grain run was WAY better oaked vs the sugar wash.

The sense is that I have the vodka and the oak and the malt. Thats why I wanna try it :)

So the vast majority af the run will go in the flavored schnapps and do a little fake whisky test.

I have some sherried oak that I used the last time I did whisky and that should help smooth out the taste.

We will see :)
