powdered potato starch

Post by BoomTown »

Was just at the local Wegmen's and saw a box of Potato Starch sitting on the shelf, like a 1 lb box. I thought, what would happen if I set us a wash, tossed in the p.starch and and mashed it back to 150 F and tossed in some enzymes and let it chill back to say 100F, add sugar to bring SG up to 1.065.

Ferment that puppy out to 1.000, and distill it off.

Would I have a faux potato vodka?

You may wanna check http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 38&t=35935 - my experience with potato starch is that you need more enzymes (I'm using liquid ones) then for grains, second thing flour tends to have less flavor then grains/spuds.
Vodka consumed wisely is harmless even in large amounts.

Bob's Red Mill is a high priced item everywhere. They have some unusual grains not packaged and available by common distributors and companies. I have only see them in the larger grocery stores and in all natural food stores in the past. And oh yes, Bog Lots as well (a wallyworld subsidiary I believe).
