4500w vs 5500w

Post by MoonWhisky »

I have a 4500w low watt density heating element now and was wondering if could use a 5500w medium watt density or will it scorch the wash, it's a 8 gallon pot still

What does make you unhappy with the 4500Watt element?

Nothing really but I will be getting a bigger pot most likely a 15.5 gallon keg in the future and till then I was wondering if a 5500w medium watt density will burn up the wash. I only have 13.5 inches to work with right now or I'd have a 5500w ulwd ripple element.

I'd use 5500Watt ULWD ripple elements. It fits in 13".

Are most rippled elements ulwd because there's on at my local ace hardware but it doesn't say ulwd just says 5500w and looks just like the one from Amazon but the brand name is sandhog

ultra low watt density just means the watts per centimeter of length is low. In the case of the Camco one, its curvy and folded back twice, so makes 4 trips back and forth. If the one you see is just as long and is 5500 watts, they watts per centimeter will be low like the Camco one.

I dont think I stated that as clearly as I could, if you dont understand smack me upside the head and Ill try again.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

No I understand just I don't like buying something in less it clearly states what it is and the sandhog doesn't say anything but 5500w but it is the same length and folded back and rippled so I will be going with that one instead that way I can keep everything the same when I decide to upgrade to a larger broiler

I believe these are one inch. There are some makes that are 11/4 but most are one inch. It will say right on the package at the hardware store if that is the route you take.
There is no such thing as a stupid question....... Unless you didn't research it first.

Yes most are 1" but the hole size needs to be 1-1/4" to slide the element through. And was wondering if the 02963 element was the same mounting hole diameter

The camco element will fit thru a 1" half coupling easily. I have 2 of them.
