I bought a couple of them, just to store low wines in until I gather enough for a spirit run. And one to keep feints in. I have thought about getting rid of the rubber gaskets and converting one to a thumper...

Most homebrewers use them. excellent for beer. I have 5 of them I have not used yet.. They don't seal to great unless you put a little co2 in them. I am sure that you could take the rubber gasket out and make an everlasting gasket to work and seal better. I would say storage is gonna be best idea for them but there are more opinions (maybe some better than mine I hope). I think the pic needs to be 80x80 to get it to upload. I use paint to change size. To large of size is what messes up 90% of the uploads.

Besides carbonating and dispensing beer, I use my cornys when I push beer through a plate filter. I've been thinking of doing something similar to push spirits through charcoal. For example, spirits go in the keg and then CO2 pushes the spirits trhough the charcoal and then a filter. Need to find/make a container for the charcoal first though.

Do you guys think you could just wrap PTFE tape over the rubber gasket 3-4 rounds to make it safe for the alcohol vapor?? Might make a good aging vessel, could even sample as it's ageing through one of the ports, not pressurized of course..

Cornet kegs are great tools for the home distiller. They are the perfect vessel for storing and aging. Easy to clean with easy access. Cheap to replace all gaskets for air tight seals. Orings really do not meet alcohol so no problem there requiring an everlasting gasket. Easy to place low wines for storage and spirit runs into for soaking and aging. I have used used chips in gallon paint straining bags, without bags, and added whole charred half barrel charred staves into the keg. I have o2 so I usually use it to help bottle. I have periodically added pressure and let sit for a few days and released several cycles to encourage aging. Charcoal will settle to the bottom and have to be filtered but most all can be siphoned off before that point is reached. A little scotch tape and a post it sticker are great ways to identify content and dates on each. I currently have 8 and would hate to loose even one of them. Also nice to have if you ever wanted to make beer and keg it or even to age wine in. I personally would not use one as a thumped when there are better options with the value I place on them. A quarter barrel would be the choice for me. Hope this helps.
