1st try of wheated bill
Just pitched my first try of the 1/2 barrel wheated bourbon. BUT I scaled it down to 6 gallons. Had quite a time trying to cool it down to be able to add yeast but I managed to get it done. We shall see how it goes!!
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
Well it has stalled. It's close but not quite there. My Sweetfeed stalled also. Kinda strange they both stalled at the same time. But I'm going to try to run it in a few days to see.
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
Do you have a hydrometer? What was your OG and FG? What temp was the fermentation?
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
It stopped bubbling yesterday. The SG was 1.06 FG now is 1.008. Yesterday it was FG 1.014

And at 74°
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
That seems reasonable, no? Were you expecting a lower FG? For my whiskey mashes (50% 2-row 50% wheat) I've only had a couple go below 1.010.nickbbb wrote:It stopped bubbling yesterday. The SG was 1.06 FG now is 1.008. Yesterday it was FG 1.014
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
I am just waiting for the same FG 3 days in a row. It started out great and then on day 2 it stopped, so I aerated it and seems to have done the trick.
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
Well I forgot to update this. Needless to say this was my first run that didn't go smoothly. I got distracted from the first jar (I know I know). But this run got too hot too quick and the first jar came out looking like lemonade. Once my oh $hit moment passed I calmed down and lowered the temp. then it turned clear. The product actually tasted decent but was low %. Will most likely try this one again. but try not to make stupid rookie mistakes!
Re: 1st try of wheated bill
Rerun it all added to a new wash give a 1.5 run should clean up and be good.
