Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar Rum?

Post by Saint1960 »

Anyone out there ever try Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar Rum? It has a very unique grainy, mashy aroma and taste to it that I like a lot. Many friends I give it to at first think it's a white dog, others a good blanco tequila.

Anyway, (and the reason I posted this to the "Sugar" section) it says on their site that they make it with "...pure first-growth and first-press sugar cane juice from Hawaii..." I've searched around and there doesn't seems to be a readily available source for first-press sugar cane juice in bulk. Any thoughts on a close substitute? One of the "first molasses" like Grandma's?

The site goes on to say it's made in smaller pot stills, so I'm hoping I can capture a similar aroma and flavor with my pot, given the right raw materials, and a good recipe from this site.

Thanks!

panela is probably pretty close. It is juice that has had the water evaporated.

In Brazil they called the spirits made from sugar cane juice Cachaca. Some of it was excellent, some rotgut.

Thanks Mad--

Just ordered 20 lbs of Panela. We'll see how it goes. I think from reading the thread you attached, I should shoot for a recipe of 1.25 or 1.5 lbs Panela/gal of water. I have a small 5 gal copper pot and a couple of 5gal bucket fermenters.

Good luck, never used it myself but thought about it. Don't know the source you got it from but I've heard SugarDaddy on this forum has it for sale and its good quality at a good price.

Yeah, that's who I got it from at $1.10 a lb. Saw his name all over that thread, then found a link to him someplace else. I have been running NCHooch's AG whiskey recipe my last dozen runs trying to get enough good stuff saved up to fill a 5L oak barrel I bought. The wife hates the shine, so I thought I'd see if she'd like my rum any better.

Things gain for the tips. Cheers!

Cachaca is the exact same thing as French Agricultural Rum. It's rum made using sugar cane juice, not molasses and sugar.

Makes a nice lighter rum, And sugardaddy is the man to get it from! I used 1.5 lbs per gallon and after the first run(which all went back in) I used 25% dunder to melt the next batch it gets better as ya go!
Save the tails also to add back(my tails were 80% abv down to 30-40% abv)
It is what you make it
