PINGER

Post by jmhayh »

Person in need of guidance!

Hello all, brand new to the art of distilling and looking for like minded people to share (or rather absorb) information from! Have a 2.5 gallon pot still and interested in anything related to the subject. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the HD forums. To get you started, there are some links in my signature that will give you a good understanding of the fundamentals.

Your still is a little small. Not to say that it won't work, but it will be difficult to do good cuts with a still of that size. We recommend no less than 5 gallons for that reason.

Good luck to you and stay safe.

Making essential oils, rose water etc....

No one said you CANT do it......just damn near impossible to get good product even for an experienced stiller.
Well, between Scotch and nothin', I suppose I'd take Scotch. It's the nearest thing to good moonshine I can find.

It would make an excellent thumper for a 5 gallon still.

I use a 3 gal pot and yes its doable, just very very frustrating. You will need to make like 3oz cuts to get anything decent. I've described it as learning to swim in a bath tub. I wouldn't recommend putting much time and money into a boiler that small.
But what the heck do I know.....I am still learning.
