Jacketed reverse shotgun crossflow condenser

Post by InglisHill »

I'm building a 4" crossflow condenser, right, 600mm with an as yet undetermined number of stainless 1/2" cooling tubes.

This is being built on 4" reverse rad column.

I was tinkering with the idea of putting a 6" water jacket around the whole thing, so it effectively makes the whole inside of the condenser (which is a reverse setup) cooling.

I had a search and could not see where anyone had done this before and thought it might be a good idea to ask for an opinion or twelve.

I can see that it could be suggested that I could just make the whole condenser 6", which I had thought about. The thing stopping me from doing this is that I already have a bunch of four inch fittings. Just to preclude that particular suggestion :)

Like a shotgun inside a liebig.

I think that is the best way to describe it.

Sounds interesting. Just trying to picture the vapour a water paths. Will the water be going through the tubes and outer jacket. And the vapour in-between the tubes?
