I guess it "could" be used, but I suspect you would gain little favor to your USSSM and cracked corn would be greatly preferred. If the bag is un-opened I bet the feed store would exchange it. If not, you would have several options to try to "crack" it yourself by using a meat grinder or even putting in in small amounts in a cloth bag and bashing with a hammer. A better option would be looking up a home brewer with a grain mill or even a home brew shop that should do it for you for a small fee. Short of these options, given the relative low cost of corn, I would feed the whole corn to the birds and deer and buy a bag of cracked corn. I would also suggest you take a good look at the Sweet Feed recipe.
Good luck,

I went ahead and used the whole corn. When i heated the water for the sugar i poured it on the corn dang near boiling and let it set for about 30 mins before i put threst of the water in it to cool it off to pitching temp.

Be careful putting heat on unconverted starch. You could end up with a boiler full of glue, burn on, cloudy distillate, undrinkable shine, and a big cleanup.

Don't get your hopes up. The husk on the kernel will likely prevent a LOT of the corn flavor from coming through not to mention the nutrients not being available as they would with the cracked. Next time make sure you get cracked corn and don't bother with hot water unless you're inverting the sugar. :problem:

Checked one of my ferments this morning and it's still bubbling after 13 days. Impatience can be wasteful and make you some less than desirable likker.

If you want to hurry things along, get more fermenters. The first one's prolly full of thin glue anyway.

It had a little bit of flavor but it was more like vodka till it got closer to the tails. I used the backset and got some cracked corn for the second go around. I got to check it this morning.
