I'm no vet but I commend all of your services. What politics does with the military can be....misguided. But yall are often the best this country has to offer. I feel a heart felt thank you, to each and every one of you men here.

Hard for me to buy into the "fighting for our freedom" rhetoric,,,, but our good folks in the military are top notch people and thank the good lord for good soldiers, sailers and airmen.

Two of our daughters are active military too. One is an Army Staff Sergeant Combat Medic with three tours in Iraq and her older sister is a Marine Staff Sergeant soon to be Gunny. Their youngest sister is a civilian and neither one of them go out of their way to provoke her. All are beautiful young women and thoroughly deadly.

I still get asked if i worry about them. Yeah, I'm their dad but I'm more concerned for anyone that tries to do them dirt.

24 Aug 2014 will be 30 years completed. Canadian tank mechanic (Veh Tech) but too high to even have a toolbox now. Lots of tours etc, was one of the first 14 soldiers in Yugo in Mar 92 when the war started. Third generation military, brother and sister were in as well as father and mother. Had two uncles in viet nam, one died there (Harry Miller but I never met him)
Got two boys, oldest is thinking of going medic, youngest is thinking of veh tech like his old man.(he already drag races like me hehe) Wife tried reserves (artillery) when I was in Petawawa and after a short period figured out that she doesn't like people screaming in her face.

X2 on the body falling apart! I'm on catagory for my knees and have some other issues but still "suck it up" and pass the annual PT test. Actually last year I got exempt I did so well but this year we're starting a new thing called "forces test" so everybody has to do it anyway.

Just glad I don't have to be rolling in the mud working on tanks all day. (and night LOL)

15 years active duty Army. Been jumping for most of that. Beat to hell but still doin it. 2 Iraq, 3 Afghan, waiting on my second northern Africa. two more years and I get my stupid desk job and retire on active duty. Lucky for me my entire time has been operational, gonna hate my stupid desk job after team time. Thanks to all those that pay taxes to send me on people hunting safaris.

two more years and I get my stupid desk job and retire on active duty. Lucky for me my entire time has been operational, gonna hate my stupid desk job after team time.

Y'know, I turned down 2 promotions and was told I'd either take it or be booted out. Went through the career review board twice. I was just like you but after riding a desk for a year or three you'll realise it ain't so bad having control of the troops. I certainly miss the days of "go to work, turn wrenches, go home" but I enjoy the freedom I have now.

Edit: and once I was behind a desk and started accepting promotion I and am where I am now. The down side is, the higher the rank, the less posting opportunities.

No first one was on the USS Fort Fisher which was decommissioned as soon as we got stateside. Lol. Second float was on the USS Boxer.

I was on the Boxer when you deployed with her. What company were you in? If it's weapons or golf I probably know you.

I feel ya. I my latest promotion put me in charge of a team, which is awesome. But it also means I now direct and maneuver my trigger squeezers, and dont get to squeeze as much myself. But I am still in the fight. I am probably gonna drink myself to sleep for a bit when I get and compile the reports of those doing all the fun shit. I will probably not advance to being the HMFIC because I fight too many battles when the good idea fairy starts floating around. It tends to piss people off when I tell them how stupid their idea is and how much more difficult it makes our lives at ground level. Even when I am right they still get their panties in a wad. But I have achieved my lifetime goal of being that crusty old NCO that sits back and comes up with the right solution at the appropriate time and doesnt need a powerpoint slide to execute it so I am happy.
