Not enough iron, nickle, or cobalt in to make it stick...

Wouldn't have been easier just to try it?

I read this as you have a SS pot that a magnet sticks to.

I have even heard of some SS kegs that a magnet will stick to.

I have old Stainless Steel milk jugs, that a magnet sticks to, but the don't rust. I believe it to be fine.

If you put enough cold work into stainless steel, it can become magnetic. There are also some grades of stainless that are inherently magnetic (400 series). Many kegs that a magnet will stick to are cold formed.

The keg looks like stainless but the piece that is welded on looks darker , more like a standard steel. If you have a file , take and file a shiny clean spot on the piece in doubt and mix up some salt in some water . Then soak a rag in the salt water and let it sit on the piece over night. If it is stainless it should not rust if it is ferrous you will see rust starting to form.
