Short and sweet....
Can get some broken 50 liter kegs through my work, probably very cheap. What's broken is the bit on top, er, don't know what you'd call it - so I'd have a cork on top as a lid to make it porous and emulate barrel conditions somewhat (in terms of oxidation anyway).
My question is this - is it safe and healthy?
Cheers.

Re: Aging liquor in kegs?
wooden kegs or stainless?, I'm assuming stainless beer kegs and that would be safe but might take longer than you got to "work".
A lot of guys that use stainless kegs for storage get a bunch of oak sticks, drill a hole in one end and thread in ss cable. they then re-seal up the spear cradle/cap and attach the cable to the underside cradle. this way they can add or remove sticks at any time and don't end up with sticks stuck it there

Re: Aging liquor in kegs?
It is safe...even some commercial distilleries and wineries are doing it in SS Kegs.
You can either tea bag oak chips in or as crow says hang sticks in the keg.

Croweater, you need a pat on the head for that idea.
Too bad I ain't got enough shine to fill a keg to use it.

A keg will be fine, but not contribute to any aging unless you put something in there.
I have a big glass carboy (wine balloon) with some brandy i made from fruit. It has been in the basement for about 2 years now, top is sealed off. A very fine drop.
If one wants aging, you also have to add material in this case..
