oak wine bottles for ageing

Post by Tap »

Interesting kickstarter idea. Thought I'd share.

Not likely to become anything truly useful... And I'm pretty sure something like this exists already...

First...they already have a patent fight.

Then they start at about $90usd a bottle. EMPTY! Ahhhhh.....

The bottles at Oakbottles.com start at $60 for a 355ml bottle, and $80 for a 750ml bottle. That price is outrageous if you ask me, especially for something so small. And as with any bottle, barrel or other "oaking/aging device", it's only going to be good for 3 or so fills before the oak is spent.

At that price point, you can essentially "age" 2.25 liters of wine or spirits for $80. I don't see that as a good investment.

They do look pretty neat, but that's about it.

I didn't pay that much for a 10 ltr barrel.
