HOU TO WURE VOLT METER
hi to all. I am building a controller for my 220 volt heating element. I am using the diagram attached. All is well except the volt meter shows 220 all the time regardless of where the pot is set. I have searched the Google search thing but couldn't find ate answer I need Can anyone tell me how to wire the volt meter.

Is your shunt on the correct leg? Is the shunt before the pot switch? Might be a good idea to post a pic

First question, is the controller connected to the heating element ?
Second question, is the volt meter connected to the right place ?

Hey shady, I'm betting he had the voltmeter on the "input" side of the SSR. That's just about the only place you'd see full rail voltage regardless of the pot setting....unles it was the wrong pot or wired wrong. The SSR goes to rail voltage when the resistance input is shorted, ie-the voltage between the 2 pot terminals is 0.shadylane wrote:Glad everything worked out Ok.

Anyway, a lot of the builders screw up reading schematics or wiring diagrams. That's why I always like to check and double check the wiring before power on.

I thought you only needed a shunt for an ammeter? Seriously curious. Would like to crawl out of my mostly electrical ignorance.Halfbaked wrote:Is your shunt on the correct leg? Is the shunt before the pot switch? Might be a good idea to post a pic
