polishing spirits

Post by johnarms »

I'm curious to know if anyone has used a plated wine filter with high ABV spirits. I am aware that there is a prevailing attitude that one should make good washes, proper techniques of distilling etc. to arrive at a superior product, an attitude that I share. However sometimes you just want to filter out stuff, oils bits of oak whatever. Just curious cause I have access to a small wine plate filter with pump and a 23 ltr Chestnut keg full of 65% whiskey with oak bits in it that might benefit from a run through the filter.  ?

As long as it doesn't contact any plastic it should be alright. Otherwise a SS funnel and a coffee filter works well.

I think a wine plate filter might be overkill just for oak bits. I agree with Tokoroa, a funnel and coffee filter should be enough for this task.
