Liebig as "aftercooler"

Today i made myself a little Liebig (500 mm total).
I used relativly small diameter for the tubing, as it is only intended as a aftercooler on my "Ethylisator" project (LM).
So it's not going to cool vapours, only liquid.
Waiting for the parts to arrive, but still wanting to get on with it, i decided to take a look at my room in the basement and see what i have there.
I found some 18 mm and 13 mm coppertube, enough to make this little cooler.
As i still need to grind a halfcircle on the waterconnections it's not finished yet. You can see them at the top of the picture.
Brass connectors barbed for hose and hoseclamps.
There will be a stainless compressionfitting (1/4 ") with a copper compressionring in it for connection to the still head.
Edit: Note..you should not go with a Liebig this small diameter (internal dia.) if you want to use it for a VM even worse a potstill in stripping mode.
This condenser is intended for liquid cooling not for condensing vapour.

I've use almost same thing on my small 1.25" LM @ 700W and take off around 0.5L/h it was working ok. And on my setup it was max it can reach distillate was coming around 30 degC.

I do not yet know how much heat my Liebig will have to handle.
It will be a aftercooler for a "compact stillhead" i am currently working on. That would be a new thread (when the last parts arrive).
But like yours Kaziel, it will be a LM design, so the Liebig only has to handle liquid.
Anyway..by the length and due to the splendid heatconductivity of copper, i figured it would be alright for the job.
As i already had the tube and the fittings were on "sale", i made this little thing for only 5 $. So it wouldn't rip a hole in my pocket if i f.. it.
The tube could be salvaged and used again.
Thanks for sharing some numbers of your design...that assures me i am on track.
I will definatly not pull 700 W on this one, i expect somthing half (or lower) to be dealt with.

Nice work mate!. I did one on an old 4" LM, worked pretty good!, probably could have been bigger but I used what I had laying around like you . Good luck mate, hope it work ok!.

I wish I could make something like that by hand lol. It's just a argon gas regulator I modified, worked well!.

Yes indeed Goose eye, it's only purpose is to cool the liquor, running from the stillhead.
It will be connected with a SS compressionfitting, only that i will replace the compressionring with a copper one.
Can't get the stainless to bite in that soft copper.
