LD Carlson's Diammonium Phosphate...?
Got this in a thread up in MY First..but decided to repost my pondering question here. I ran into a deal at a bankrupt winery sale. I had bought 5 pounds of DAP that was in pounder bags. Made from LD Carlson and bags read " Food Grade Urea and Diammonium Phosphate". Is there a difference in food grade and urea for ur garden? Or is it just a marketing scam. Never liked to use anything with urea in my beverages. Idk why cuz I remember the old man using some crazy ass stuff. If anyone has a answer olz chime in.

Your body produces urea to help digest (metabolize) nitrogen from proteins.
Here, this is from Wiki:
"Urea is synthesized in the body of many organisms as part of the urea cycle, either from the oxidation of amino acids or from ammonia. In this cycle, amino groups donated by ammonia and L-aspartate are converted to urea, while L-ornithine, citrulline, L-argininosuccinate, and L-arginine act as intermediates. Urea production occurs in the liver and is regulated by N-acetylglutamate. Urea is then dissolved into the blood (in the reference range of 2.5 to 6.7 mmol/liter) and further transported and excreted by the kidney as a component of urine. In addition, a small amount of urea is excreted (along with sodium chloride and water) in sweat."
Similarly, it is common in fertilizers for the same reason...to make the nitrogen available to the plants for growth.
I certainly wouldn't fear the LD Carlson product as a nutrient for your ferments. And if you don't want to use it in brewing, you could always sprinkle it on your garden.

Thanks...I got hold of.the Sr. Gunny and he said it was fine to use it. Happen to mention that food grade is different somehow than garden variety. I only bought it to help out with Rum due to the fact my DAP is getting low and it seems hard to get now and expensive.
