question on charring

about how much penetration of char goes into your wood?

about 1 minute with a map torch gets me a little less than an 1/8 of inch of charred depth

anyone who has used oak from previous commercial whiskey barrels or anyone who has taken one apart know about how deep their char is?

how much time per side to you char and about how deep does it get into the wood
