That's a great idea! I've been looking into building a small foundry very simple. The waste oil burner another good way to use what we all ready have. A friend has a waste oil burner it looks like his (my friend ) burns hotter. With his, it has white flames with orangeis red. He had to play with the jetting a bit. He also uses an old oil fence parts(not sure of the correct name ) magneto to start it burning.
Just a thought, sure would be a great way to make copper things you need :D

Not derailing a bit Danespirit. I like hearing ideas from others even if they are goofy. I'm wondering now if that waste out burner might be a good use for fores or post cleaning run alcohol. :D I was actually considering building a pulse jet engine and seeing if I could run that on fores but all of these ideas are a ways off in the future for me, I still need to get that damn porch built but now I am drawing others into my way of thinking. Just think how cool a standard column or condenser would look covered in cast copper frogs? or like my idea with the dragon heads or I was even considering the possibility of making my shotgun product condenser being made to look like a dragon with flammable liquid (distillate) flowing out of it's mouth. Mash Rookie used to use a CNC to cut handles for his valves, I think Bushman did the same with his. What about casting our own knobs and handles to add our own personal touches to truly make designs our own and unique? It's amazing what kind of difference a small thing like a handle or knob can make.

I know my building style is usually the Junk pile style (Maybe cover a column with what looks like an actual junk pile out of cast copper bits?) but since I've been playing with glass I've been thinking a little art in the process for beauties sake isn't actually a bad thing. I'd like to see what kind of ideas and designs you guys come up with.

See I told you I shouldn't be allowed to think sometimes. SOMEBODY STOP ME BEFORE I THINK AGAIN!!!!

Cast copper frogs? Yes.

I was thinking of casting tri-clamp ferrules and sight glass flanges. Frogs are better.

Of course flanges and ferrules and other parts are a given but it doesn't mean they can't be highly decorative as well. The frogs are just an example like this handle on a 110 year old pitcher

or these Harmony Kingdom boxes

HK FROGS.JPG
Think about a sight glass with something like that around the bezel. Yes I'm dangerous when I start thinking.

Ha,ha...damned, Cranky..you and me think a lot in the same directions.. :D
Your pulsejet will work on the fores, for sure...but i think it should be a valveless construction, with a startup on butane/propane...then it will work.
If you want to do a valved pulsejet, i can help you with the valves. Really easy, etched from one piece of steel and works brilliant (it ripped my vice from the workbench, so the valve works). PM me , if you want...
Just throw fores into the burner, it will eat about anything that can be set on fire...
I saw the great work Mash Rookie made on his rig...oh..what a beauty. Mash Rookie, where ever you are...we honor you as we hold you in memory.
Cranky, some copper castings won't be out of line on your rig...i think they may be a nice supplement to it.
Oh, man...i know how it is...all those "crazy" ideas and the eager to build, and then the wife wants a porch.. :wtf:

In all fairness I've been promising her a new porch for about 4 years now. Priorities were new bathrooms, new kitchen, porch then siding. Got the bathrooms finished, The kitchen still needs some work but is functional and has all new cabinets so now it is time to do the porch while the weather is still good. It really isn't that big of a project, only about 12ft by maybe 8ft but it is oddly shaped and I have motivational difficulties when it comes to working on the house. This is our 3rd or 4th house remodel but at least it isn't the full rebuild we have done in the past but I'm kind of tired of working on houses.

The pulse jet is something I always wanted to do ever since the machinist who worked for the same company as me showed me his. Who doesn't love something that is super loud and spits fire? I will probably be PMing you about that but for now I need to try to focus on the house then the MMF although I ran out of solder again and don't know when I will have the chance to get more.

2 problems with that plan, First I don't want to advertise my activities and second she has specific ideas about what that porch should look like and the only glass involved is in light bulbs, but she did buy me that glass tube so she does deserve a porch. Guess I need to get in gear and start building it.

I'm sure it won't take very long when I get in gear, Too bad you're not closer ranger_ric, I thought since your location is West of Eden you must be on the Washington coast. That's only a few hours from me :D
bearriver wrote:Hey Cranky, do you got the material for that deck?
No, I haven't bought any materials yet, I made a rough sketch and an incomplete materials list and planned on going through and completing the list and buying everything a couple weeks ago but time gets away from me so I am going to try to get it this week. I was thinking about seeing if there are any materials left at the True Value in Federal Way that's going out of business, if not I guess it will be Home Depot. The only real problem is she wants special order Trexx type decking but like I said, it's not going to be very big so even that shouldn't cost much We just need to get it ordered and I figure I can get everything else ready while we wait for that or use something temporary.

Well it's been a while since I have made any progress on the MMF but yesterday I managed a little more. I got the second plate all soldered up and remade the spouts. All that's left for the 2nd plate is clean up. As far as the other 3 I still need to cut the spouts so they can be attached to the down tubes.
So here are the pix of this weeks progress.
MMF 48 - C.JPG
MMF 49 - C.JPG
MMF 50 - C.JPG
MMF 51 - C.JPG
In addition to that I was a t Home Depot in federal way and they had a bunch of 48" corrugated SS likes in the mark down bin for $6-$7 so I bought 2 and am planning on modifying the UFO to serve as both the top hat and the condenser with a Dad300 condenser occupying the top mug.

I don't mind one bit when one of my threads wanders a bit, it will eventually find it's way back. After all I'm the one who brought up the subject of porches. Speaking of that I intended to buy all the stuff for the porch yesterday but when I got to the hardware store I reached into my pocket for my list and it was gone :( I spent several hours looking for it today but can't find it anywhere. On my way home I stopped at the True Value down the road that's going out of business and picked up a few more bargains. I guess I should post those in the deals thread but haven't yet. Anyway I go out to their lumber yard to see if anything is left and see there is probably enough to do the job but still don't know exactly what I need. So this morning after much searching I give up, take my original drawing and write up a new materials list. Overall today has been a very unpleasant and unproductive day so of course when I get to the True Value they have sold most of the lumber I needed but still have about 15ea 2X12X12s. I don't think I need anything bugger than a 2X6X12 but at $15 each I decide I can make due with them since the 2X6s at Home Depot are about that price. I figure I can rip them down to 2X6s or whatever size I decide I need and save about $100. I like saving money :D I also bought 3 more sticks of 3/4" pipe, I don't need but couldn't pass up and some fittings to adapt my short liebig to the bottom of my shotgun condenser for a little extra cooling and another ULWD element (4500W) that I just couldn't pass up and some other misc. stuff. Now I need to make another trip to Home Depot and get the rest but like I said today hasn't been a very good day so I blew that off.

Like the paracord holster Frodo. When my shoulder heals up I have to get busy and devise some Saiga 12 mag holders. The Saiga was my project just before shoulder surgery. Good timing huh?

Today is my Sunday and last week passed very slowly. My green beans are getting pissey because they need me to finish the trellis so they can grow big and tall and I am really over complicating that. I worked at least an hour every day on that this past week and just now am ready to add the trellis work but I can tell you this, it isn't going to blow over this year, like it did last year or collapse under the weight of wet beans when the rain comes, like it did the year before. I love my weekends and would rather be doing so many other things besides that stuff but I will all have it done soon and be able to take a break and maybe get the garage clean and run off all that cider and birdwatchers I've got sitting there taunting me.

As far finding my way home, I live close to work and my drive home is amazing with the sound in view most of the way and helps relieve the stress of the day before I get home.

That's pretty nice Frodo, I should have gone that route but I have this big pile of 4x4s that I intended to cut up for firewood, I actually burned it all last winter, and I figured why not just make something out of that. I am trying to make the yard not ugly by my wife's standard so it is a trellis with a sort of bridge in the middle. I will try to get some pictures of it sometime soon. I like the idea of pvc to water it though. I will have to see whats left at the True Value.

4 years ago or so, I worked in Olympia for March through July. I really enjoyed being around the sound very nice seeing the water and all the green life around. That would make it nice too drive home from work and be seeing all of nature best. Sorry not trying to push you but yah you should get your peas trellis up. My wife peas I'm all ready eating them for lunch
but dang you've got your porch to build still and MMF build your frementers are full and ready for you.

Just make sure you buy an extra %15 material for waste. When you get the material let me know. I could probably help you bang out a deck that small in a lazy afternoon. I got all the tools to get it done quick and right. It's just a matter of scheduling the time.
