If it is the one without the tabs, then you can use it by just removing the guts. If not and you have the tabs, then it should be replaced. We go over that when you know for sure

Today was UFO day here at Cranky's place. Yesterday I got the support tubes soldered on to the UFO and today I did some cleanup ad fitting of the condenser. I sized the holes for the cooling tubes to pass through and soldered copper tubes to the ends of the corrugated tube...then I re-soldered the connections...then I re-soldered them again. It seems to be holding now the next step is to solder it into the UFO. Here is the picture of it being pressure tested.

I also cleaned up the piece I made to adapt from the shotgun down to the short liebig and than I did this.

Which made me think of making this

A doomsday device alarm clock with a nixie tube number display. I think I could run the corrugated tube from one end to the other, add some blinking lights, maybe arduino controlled...

I have the ts4000 and the ts8000. Those torches blow away every other propane torch I have tried.

Nonsense. I don't know about cranky, but I soldered my 3 inch type L pipe in no time flat with a ts4000 propane torch from Home Depot. I also disassembled it to add a triclamp instead, revealing the solder flow...

I think you're right, that you have is much much better but it costs much more.

OK your keg I don't like that type to easy for the gasses to excape so here's what I'd do easy with your torch setup. 1001 ways to skin a cat

I have used this fitting, in the past. It's a press fit, so you'll need to pound it on or something like but NOT hit it with a hammer or something hard , to easy to dent

i did not say it will not work, it does,

what i am saying, with a smaller flame one with a point not a rose bub

you can get into smaller places,heat just that area,then get out. without melting the solider on your other work.

i am not saying it does not work.

he is soldering copper next to copper he perviously soldered,I know the aggravation in that.

the aggravation that what is just soldered falls off, while soldering a different pipe.

that is what a large flame will do to you,

Thank you Midwest Shiner, I am getting close but I ran out of solder once again today, and can't get to Lowe's, the planning department told me 3 weeks and they'll get back with me on the porch so I am going to go try to finish the green bean trellis and start working on the garage. I'll get a few more pictures up in a bit though.

Frodo, My keg has that same fitting, I just made an easy flange for my setups and use an everlasting gasket made from a copper ring wrapped in PTFE and never had a problem with leaks, I have to give it an extra wrap every now and then but it works fine.

As far as torches, I have a cheap crappy propane torch that gets the job done but heat management can be an issue since depending on how you hold it the flame can be very small or very large without changing settings, but it would certainly be nice to have a better torch but my budget is gone and I still need more solder.

i am going to make a flange on the copper, and buy a ss flange for the keg.

is the problem with leaking due to the notches? if so,, i dont see why they could not be filled in
