Coolant lines and hoses. From air compressor?

Post by Scribbler »

Anyone here have any experience using standard hoses from your basic air compressor?

The quick connects seem rather attractive!

Parker brand stainless steel quick disconnects with PTFE seals are VERY nice. I believe they are most commonly used in hydraulics, if I recall correctly...

They are expensive however and I've never used one in the application of a still. I also haven't seen them in diameters larger than 1/4".

Scribbler,

I just bought a kit of these from Tractor Supply that included 2 of the female (ball snap couplings) and 4 of the male fittings, both in brass along with a hand spray nozzle (for dusting) and a tire inflation (Shrader) end for $16 USD.

They would work for a cooling water system but remember that the ball snap seal does rely on internal pressure to maintain a good seal. So, if you're running water from a pond pump, the preassure may not be adequate to maintian that leak-proof seal. It might be OK, but you're using the fittings for a service outside its design intent.

Nice. My problem is that I overbuilt my coolant ports. A) I could have gone with a smaller diameter brass rod. B) I used a friends lathe to bore the thru-hole, and while I was there I noticed his collection of taps...

So we ended up threading it with the "national pipe taper standard size for farms"...

Now I am sort if stuck looking for fittings that use that thread count.
