Finally! Found a 50l keg.. Its only been a year.. missed several opportunity's, to find this one for less then 50$. happy day!
I know its a lot easier for some of you to find these kegs.. but on the island here these are like a purple unicorn.. especially at this price.

Got a 4'6" co2 bottle and tap set for kegging. Cost 75 bucks. For comparison the 20l bottles cost 150 to 200 to buy locally here. And to top it off, it was 3/4 full

I'm visiting friends tonight that own a winery. He gave me 25 gallons of two different wines to distill (plenty more where that came from). One is a 20% ABV dessert wine, the other is a wild fermented blend that is fantastic. They send off some of the latter to a local distillery to make grappa which they use to fortify their port wine. I tasted the grappa and it's great! Can't wait to make my own!

He also gave me a 15.5 gallon sanke keg in mint condition. He has a whole room full of them and said they're switching to sixtels cause the half barrels are too heavy and I can have all I want!

Then he gave me the head from an oak barrel they used only once so I can make ageing sticks from the wood.

He also has a whole room full of cases of nice 500ml and 750ml bottles with corked caps they don't use anymore that I can have.

I totally scored tonight and will come back with my pickup truck next time and a few bottles to show my appreciation.

Seriously good find Mason! You best snatch every single last keg. If someone offered me a room full of kegs, they would be gone in 60 seconds flat. 8)

Yeah serious hook up for sure, I haven't been so excited in a long time!

He needs to keep some kegs around for now until he finds enough sixtels to cover their needs. Problem is he's been trading the 15.5 kegs straight up. On one hand I feel like I'm taking advantage of a good friend (and great source of fermentables). Other hand he did offer, and they'll all be gone if I don't act soon.

I took one for myself for now. Actually it was all I could fit in the car after filling a bunch of cornys and carboys with wine. I'll def post up something if I end up getting more of them.

I sided/painted the house in the back and took $1,500 off the bill for the 5th wheel. It's in pristine condition on the inside and just needs the corners pulled for new caulking on the outside. Big enough to haul my family down to S3:16.

My customer also needs the hardwood floors replaced in select parts of her home due to water damage. To finance getting all the floors done, she is offering me the pickup truck that she used to pull the trailer with the insurance money. The pickup is just like the one I already drive except it is newer and still in great condition. :shifty:

Somebody at my work made a mistake while ordering something and what showed up instead was a 55 gallon food grade drum with clamp on lid. It was too costly to send back so I was nice enough to offer to take it off their hands and dispose of it  They accepted my generous offer so I now have a never before used 55 gallon food grade fermenter. Last time cheerios was on sale I bought 12 boxes and I'm thinking a nice cheerios wash is the perfect thing to break this in.

Hey Cranky, you need one of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RBS015-Rain-Bar ... SwEeFU3nP-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Nice find. You really needed a 55 gallon fermenter.

I take fill my 55 gallon drums when picking fruit. Fill up 5 gallon buckets and dump them in until full, and then push the drums off my truck and onto a work bench in the garage. It makes it easier to rack straight to into the still when it's done fermenting.

Actually now that you mention it... I only have 6 or 8 boxes of cheez-its left so my plan was to do only a 20 gallon ferment with them, well two 10 gallon ferments, using 2 or 3 boxes to a 10 gallon batch with an additional box ground and added just before the ferment is finished. I will be updating that thread when I get those ferments started but I didn't want to use the drum for anything less than 40 gallons, at least for the first ferment :D

I was thinking something similar. As I clean my garage I'm going to make a dedicated stilling/fermenting area out of the East half and keep the drum raised, add 2 spigots, one at the bottom and one 6 or 8 inches up to keep it above the trub so I can hook up a hose above the sediment and rack it straight into the boiler. I happen to have a spigot with 1/2" pipe thread and was thinking about using that but I like those bulkhead fitting ones and might have to look into that.

It should be a cheap and easy install with the open top. That apple brandy distillery I applied to has about 100 of those drums with the same spigots. It seemed to work good, granted he put 4 on a pallet and stacked them to the ceiling.

The removable top is one of the nice things about it so a drain with a bulkhead fitting makes sense. I'm actually very excited to have it because I've wanted to do larger ferments to make things go a little faster for things like vodka. I will only need to fill this thing a couple times to have more than a year supply of everything I want to drink. It will also give me enough to experiment with and next year it can help a lot when fruit season rolls around.

Cleaning my father-in-laws shop out (it's a monument task as he saved everything) I scored a 8' piece of 1/2" copper tube along with the following metal lathe. It even has a setting for making threads just need to learn how to use it.
