Many folks use cooling tanks to irrigate their still. Chemicals such as bleach are added to keep the water from getting funky when in storage.
I'm building a closed loop water cooled PC. It is justifiably uncommon for a PC builder to use stabilization chemicals inside the irrigation. Instead, they use a small strip of silver immersed in the water reservoir to kill any microorganisms. It is a chemical free and permanent solution to things like algae growth.

I am going to scale this and try to apply the principle on home distilling equipment. My plan is to take a sealed 55 gallon drum full of water, and let it sit with some real silverware hanging from a string. If it keeps then I'll quit using H2O2 for storing water.

Why not just use copper mesh? It'll give you a very large surface area for the copper ions to diffuse from.
Copper is algal and bacteriostatic almost as much as silver. At it costs a lot less.

Why not? I'll try that in another drum.FuelMaker wrote:Why not just use copper mesh?
