Hello all, just signed up.
been making my own beer and wine for awhile now, and still enjoying it.
I am giving spirit ago now, but feeling a little out of my depth.
I have made a batch up with the alcotec 48 turbo yeast 20%
its not finished just yet, I am not to sure on the finishing of it.
I have a stabiliser, the black carbon sachet, alcotec turbo klar.
have I got the right stuff please.
do I rack it of first then add the stabiliser, just not sure after that.
any advice would be great.
many thanks
barry.

Around here the turbo yeasts are considered suitable for making fuel & solvent, but not so suitable for making a decent drop for drinking. Fermenting a wash to 6 - 8% is more common, max 10% or you may start getting off flavors in the finished product.
When I started off with the turbo yeast I would let it finish (1.000 gravity or less) mixed in the carbon & let it sit a day, then mix in the clarifiers & let it sit till it cleared (another day or so) & left a hard cake on the bottom of the fermentor. It was ready for the boiler when racked off.
I still have a couple packets of the turbo here, they will probably get used for a future sacrificial run when I upgrade my column.

Greetings luvsmebike, you'll won't like what I'll say but it has to be said. You've done all the right steps.....to make rocket fuel. 20% is way too high for drinkable spirit. Turbo yeast is not a good yeast to use, it makes you use carbo sachets and turbo klar. What you need to do now is READ. Start at crankys spoon feeding post in novices. It's located right at the top. It's a long read but will set you straight in this great hobby. Another thing, have you done the proper cleaning runs on your still? The wash that you've made would make an excellent sacrifice run. Read, read, read and enjoy the forums.

Welcome to the forums. You've received good advice. The reading you need to do can be found with the links in my signature.
Think about the time it took you to get to the point of making decent beer and wine and understand that it's the same for distillation. You have a leg up with the brewing and wine making, but there's a long way to go with distilling the wash and doing the finishing steps to arrive at an exceptional drinking spirit.
Good luck to you and stay safe.
