Looking to try and age a quart of my pure all grain Corn and Barley whisky.
Someone point me in the right direction. Not looking to re-invent the wheel. Going to use classic white oak.
I was thinking just get a couple of thin slats from my wood worker brother for free
Questions are:
Do I need to prep the raw white oak?
Do I char the outsides with a blow torch or is there another method?
Do I simply drop the piece/pieces into the jar and close the lid and leave it sit? Or do I need to store it a certain way at certain temp etc etc
Does it matter what shape the wood is? Smaller pieces vice one large piece etc. How big a piece should I use for a medium 1 quart/1 liter mason jar?
After its aged for a couple months to a year, do I just filter it through a coffee filter or a charcoal filter to catch any of the sediments from the charred wood?
Any and all guidance on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
