induction cooktop and copper
This may sound like an odd question...but...If I solder or weld a stainless steel bottom to a copper still boiler...do you think an induction cooker would heat the copper still. I know induction cookers have to be used with a pot that a magnet will adhere to...magnets don't adhere to copper...but they do to steel. What are your thoughts?

I think your approach is WRONG. You're trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Why?
If you want to "electrofy" your copper boiler, then get a 2" copper triclover (easy flange) ferrule and solder it into your boiler. Then get a 2" triclover to 1"NPS adapter and thread an electric water heater element into it.
The induction hotplate isn't the right tool for the job. And the "Frankenstein boiler" is not the way to go.

While I agree with SS on adding an element, if you HAD to use an induction cooktop there is no need to weld anything to your boiler. There are many different interfaces sold to heat non-induction cookware.
der wo and I had a discussion a while back about these. I had an induction for my 5 gallon pot that worked great. I never needed the interface but he seemed to think they were prone to uneven heating... no bueno.
Add the element if you can, you will be happy with the results.
